LONG BEACH HAS ALREADY VOTED ON THIS. Again and again…
Last night, dozens of residents and your Long Beach Firefighters stood before the Long Beach City Council asking them to protect Engine 14 and prioritize public safety.
Several residents shared deeply personal stories of emergencies in which Engine 14 was there when they needed it most—stories of lives being saved, homes and property being protected, and firefighters arriving when minutes seconds mattered.
Those stories put a human face on what is at stake.
But another powerful point was made during public comment:
Long Beach residents have already told City Hall what they prioritize. At the ballot box. Repeatedly.
In 2016, voters approved Measure A after being asked to fund ‼️“911 emergency response services” and “increase police, firefighter/paramedic staffing.”‼️
In 2020, voters extended Measure A after again being told it would help‼️ “maintain 911 emergency response services, police, fire.” ‼️
And just two years ago, 81.68% of Long Beach voters approved Measure LB, with the ballot specifically identifying 911 response and firefighter/paramedic services among the services the new revenue would help maintain. ‼️
These are general City revenues—not funds legally restricted solely to the Fire Department. But the message from Long Beach voters could hardly be clearer:
When asked whether we are willing to invest in public safety, we have said YES. Again and again.
And last night, citizens came to City Hall and explained exactly why.
They weren’t speaking in hypotheticals.
They spoke about the fire engine that responded to their emergency.
The firefighters who helped save their life.
The crew that helped protect their home and their property.
That is what Engine 14 means to the community it serves.
Residents should not have to fill City Hall and walk one by one to a microphone to convince their elected representatives that maintaining emergency response capability is a priority.
We already voted.
And now the community is showing up in person to say it again.
Honor that priority.
Protect public safety.
Protect Engine 14.
