Good morning neighbors,

On Monday, I shared that this Election Day would likely be one none of us would soon forget. It’s certainly shaping up to be that way.

Last night, our votes fell short, but our efforts certainly didn’t. By a narrow margin of 62 votes, Vice Mayor Lee Davis was elected as your Mayor, garnering 52% of the vote to our 48%.

To our volunteers, our donors, to those that spent the full day, from sunrise to sunset with us yesterday, thank you. To the 591 residents that cast a ballot in my favor, thank you. And to the entire Walden community, it has been an absolute privilege to serve you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

To my wonderful family, I couldn’t have done this without you. To my son, Wil Trohanis thank you for helping me navigate the wild world of political social media, surprising us on Election Eve, and being with us all all day yesterday. Finally, to my adoring, patient, and pavement-pounding wife, Jean, thank you. Your encouragement and your dedication not only to Walden, but to the entire Signal Mountain community, is truly incredible. I couldn’t imagine spending a day without you through the past 40 years.

For those of you disappointed by the outcome of this race, your voices must be heard. Please continue to speak up, write in, and make your positions known through Town Meetings and any other accessible forums. Unfortunately, our town remains divided on an important issue, and your opinions deserve consideration.

Congratulations to Vice Mayor Davis on a hard-fought race, and I wish him all the best as your new Mayor. I assure you I’ll cooperate to ensure as smooth of a transition as possible.

Thank you again for the privilege to serve this amazing town for the past 8 years.

With warm regards and hope for the days ahead,

Mayor William Trohanis

Neighbors, tomorrow is a big day, and one we’ll all likely remember forever.

I take great pride that the Walden of today is better than it was 5 years ago when my time as Mayor began. The credit is largely due to you, the residents, the volunteers, and the visitors that make Walden what it is. It is an honor to lead this treasured town and to play a critical part in shaping its future. The needs of our town are around the clock, and I am able to commit to the full-time responsibilities of our residents.

We’ve made tremendous progress establishing Walden as a unique and blossoming community, giving this town a stronger sense of self and identity that reflects the ever-changing composition of our residents. However, our work is far from over. We’ve worked hard for Walden to stand on its own, not just the “small town next to Signal Mountain.” Walden has so much to offer the broader community, complementing our neighbors, but deserving of our independence, and our own unique vision for the future.

Your vote, cast in my favor, secures a plan for preserving low property taxes. It ensures the oversight of a responsibly developed, attractive focal point for our town, including gathering places, a pavilion, and green space, with an adjacent tastefully appointed grocery store offering much-needed competition and convenience to our residents.

My policy has always been to keep Walden charming, safe, and affordable. Each of these values are equally important and equally on the line with this election. If elected, you have my absolute commitment to carry forward this charge in my next term.

I truly can’t tell you how much your support and encouragement, throughout this entire process, means to me and to our family. I’m energized and enthusiastic about the privilege to serve you and to lead this wonderful town.

I’d deeply appreciate your vote, and hope to see many of you tomorrow!

Mayor Bill Trohanis

Tomorrow, citizens of Walden can (1) elect a Mayor and Alderman that over the next four years can help reshape this area into an attractive town center that generates sales tax revenue or citizens can (2) elect a Mayor and Alderman who want to maintain this unsightly status quo and will raise your property taxes because of insufficient sales tax revenue.

Which do you prefer?

A nationally-recognized principal, forever a deeply caring teacher, patient (oh my goodness is she patient!) and loving wife, and the most tender-hearted mother and Yia Yia. She makes one heck of a campaign co-star, and First Lady of Walden too 😊. She’s been by my side through it all, and even as we logged almost 500,000 steps walking door-to-door over the last 6 weeks. Here’s to you, Jean! The Happiest of BOO-rthdays to you! 🎃🎂

Early voting finished last night with four record voter count days, but perhaps the majority of Walden voters are waiting for the big event on Tuesday.

Walden residents vote at the Walden Town Hall at 1836 Taft Highway, just in front of the Pumpkin Patch.

Don’t be confused that some Hamilton County citizens (outside of Walden) will vote at the new WRES Fire Hall. I would appreciate your vote on Tuesday!

"To those on a fixed income who can’t afford more property tax increases – he hears you and he fights for you. To those young families, drawn to Walden by its charm, yet in need of modern conveniences – he hears you and he fights for you. To all of Walden, and the broader Walden’s Ridge community, my father listens to you first, and then willingly takes on the charge entrusted to him as a leader."

I'm an incredibly proud father today. I'm so grateful for the articulate message and thoughtful words shared by my son in his Chattanoogan.com opinion piece. Please take a read and share with your friends! Happy Friday, neighbors.
