Thrasher is a Kindergarten through grade 5 school located in the heart of Signal Mountain, TN. From 1975 - 1999, Thrasher served the mountain as an intermediate school with grades 3 - 5. The inside of the school reflects the warmness of the mountain with an indoor pond and park benches. Throughout the school, the walls are palettes for learning. Murals around the school continue the theme of the c
ommunity and/or the curriculum of that grade level. The building reflects the school's child-friendly and nurturing culture. Promethean boards are installed in classrooms (grades 2 - 5). Teachers in all grade levels use technology as a tool to enhance and differentiate instruction; students use computers to publish writings, conduct research, create presentations, and practice academic skills. We also boast a thriving extra-curricular clubs program. Students can choose up to two clubs to attend; with a variety of selections from the Book Club to the Robot Club, there's something for everyone. Cultural Arts are an emphasis at this school. Our goal as an Allied Arts* school is to provide students with basic skills, appreciation, and understanding of dance, literary arts, music, theater, and visual arts. We also plan and implement an advanced infusion of instruction to meet the grade-level benchmarks within art disciplines based on national and state standards. Funds from Allied Arts and PTA provide a BrainDance teacher for K - 1 students. PTA also provides an Art teacher for the school. The music program offers chorus and handbells to fifth-grade students. Character Education is a goal of the system as well as the school. Weekly assemblies concentrate on the character trait of the month and students who exemplify those traits are recognized with Panther Pride. Technology is integrated into the curriculum and viewed as a tool to enable learning. Each class is networked and has access to the Internet. There are at least three computers in every classroom. A stationary lab is provided for grades 2-5, and a primary writing and reading lab for K-1 students with a teacher provided for in each lab. Grade 2-5 classrooms are equipped with Promethean Boards, laptop computers, and projectors. K-2 with document cameras and projectors and to continuously upgrade our technology to enhance learning. Accelerated Reading, Study Island, and IXL are school-wide programs that students use. Students also have opportunities to create multimedia presentations that are published locally in the school and globally on the web.
