🚨 Community Reminder from Siletz Valley Fire District 🚨

Recently, The Siletz Fire District responded to a shed fire that had been intentionally set by the property owner. It’s important to remember that backyard burning is limited to clean yard debris only, never burn trash or painted/treated lumber.

This incident was not reported through 911, but instead brought to our attention by a citizen who came directly to the station to report a possible burning complaint. Please remember our station is not always staffed, and coming to the station or calling directly can delay response times for both us and our neighboring agencies.

When our first unit arrived, crews had to determine whether the situation was a legal backyard burn or something more serious before requesting additional resources. This delay led to understandable concerns from bystanders about response time and available personnel.

This is where the community plays a critical role.

If you see smoke or have concerns about a fire, even if you’re unsure, CALL 911 immediately. This ensures the right resources are dispatched as quickly as possible.

There were also several bystanders during this incident, this is a great time to think about how you can be part of the solution and become a member of the Siletz Valley Fire District, so the next time you can be there to help us protect the community.

🔴 Key Takeaways:
• CALL 911 to report smoke or burning concerns
• DO NOT come to or call the fire station directly
• CONSIDER joining Siletz Valley Fire District as a volunteer

Together, we can keep Siletz safe. 🚒
Be safe this summer. ☀️🔥

On this International Firefighters’ Day, we honor the brave members of Oregon’s fire service who stand watch over our communities, day and night, on every planet (or just across the state).

Your courage, strength, and dedication are legendary.

May the FOURTH be with YOU, Oregon firefighters. Today, and every day, we salute your service.

With the weather getting nicer and conditions starting to dry out a little bit, we’ve been receiving a lot of questions about when the burn ban will take effect and whether burning is still allowed.

As of right now, burning is still permitted and is tentatively scheduled to remain open until June 15th. However, this date could change sooner if conditions dry out more quickly than expected.

We strongly encourage everyone to stay informed and check conditions before burning. You can visit beforeyouburn.com to see current burn status for your area. You can also use the site to “check in” your burn. This lets local agencies know where burning is taking place and helps us respond more effectively if a smoke report comes in.

As always, please burn responsibly and safely.

Check in before you burn. Get real-time outdoor debris burn status, weather conditions, and local fire agency information for your exact location. The Before You Burn Program helps keep communities safe.

This week, the Siletz Valley Fire District team were joined by the Toledo crew to focuse on wildland fire training as we continue preparing for the upcoming fire season.

From practicing deploying hose lines to digging fire line and practicing “pump and roll” operations. Our crews are committed to staying ready to protect our community and the surrounding natural areas.

As conditions begin to dry out, preparation and training remain a top priority.

This past week, Siletz Valley Fire District was joined by Toledo Volunteer Firefighters Association and Oregon Department of Forestry - West Oregon District for our annual RT-130 Wildland Fire Refresher. Thank you to the great folks at Oregon Department of Forestry for coming in and teaching the class!

Even on the coast, we know how quickly fire season can ramp up. Trainings like this ensure our crews stay sharp, prepared, and ready to respond when it matters most.

The Toledo Fire Department is building a new training site and we’re looking for a few household items to help create realistic training scenarios for our crews.

We’re currently on the hunt for:

• Couches & love seats
• Small end tables
• TVs
• Dining room chairs
• TV stand

👉 Items should be in good, usable condition

Why pay dump fees when you could donate it instead?
Your old furniture could help train firefighters for real emergencies right here in our community.

💥 Bonus: It’s tax-deductible too!

Interested in donating? Reach out to:

We appreciate the support more than you know!

We had a great joint training session this week with Toledo fire in preparation for wildfire season.
