🚨 Community Reminder from Siletz Valley Fire District 🚨
Recently, The Siletz Fire District responded to a shed fire that had been intentionally set by the property owner. It’s important to remember that backyard burning is limited to clean yard debris only, never burn trash or painted/treated lumber.
This incident was not reported through 911, but instead brought to our attention by a citizen who came directly to the station to report a possible burning complaint. Please remember our station is not always staffed, and coming to the station or calling directly can delay response times for both us and our neighboring agencies.
When our first unit arrived, crews had to determine whether the situation was a legal backyard burn or something more serious before requesting additional resources. This delay led to understandable concerns from bystanders about response time and available personnel.
This is where the community plays a critical role.
If you see smoke or have concerns about a fire, even if you’re unsure, CALL 911 immediately. This ensures the right resources are dispatched as quickly as possible.
There were also several bystanders during this incident, this is a great time to think about how you can be part of the solution and become a member of the Siletz Valley Fire District, so the next time you can be there to help us protect the community.
🔴 Key Takeaways:
• CALL 911 to report smoke or burning concerns
• DO NOT come to or call the fire station directly
• CONSIDER joining Siletz Valley Fire District as a volunteer
Together, we can keep Siletz safe. 🚒
Be safe this summer. ☀️🔥
