Registration Open for 9 Tribes Prevention Camp

The 9 Tribes Prevention Camp is a long-standing tradition that brings together youth, ages 14-18, from all nine federally recognized Tribes of Oregon and the Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest (NARA NW). This annual gathering provides a unique opportunity for youth to build meaningful connections, celebrate and share their diverse cultural traditions, and participate in prevention education, including the Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) training.

Each year, a different Tribe or NARA NW has the honor of hosting the camp. This year, on August 17-21, the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians are proud to welcome youth from across Oregon to our community. While we could have hosted the camp at an off-site facility, it was important to us to invite participants to our home so they could experience the beauty of our lands, our programs, and the spirit of our community firsthand. Throughout the week youth will camp in teepees on the Community Center grounds, creating an immersive and memorable cultural experience.

Camp participants will fish and explore river health on the Siletz River, tackle a ropes course focused on leadership and teamwork, rotate through games and cultural teachings at the Community Center, and gather each evening for Culture Share with visiting Tribes. One special evening at the Longhouse, hosted by our Cultural Department and Buddy Lane, will cover the history of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians and the Longhouse’s role in our community.

We are honored to host this year's camp and hope you'll join us!
