FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 2, 2026
Statement Regarding a Former Silver High
School Employee

Silver Consolidated Schools received information on August 25, 2026, that raised serious concerns regarding an employee at Silver High School. The information reported to the District involved alleged conduct that occurred away from school grounds during the summer. After receiving the initial report on the same day, the District immediately placed the employee on paid administrative leave, secured District-issued technology, and notified law enforcement. The District’s review did not identify any inappropriate material on school-issued devices.

The employee met with District administration at Central Office today, September 2, 2026, and, facing termination, submitted a resignation. Following that meeting, the employee was taken into custody by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Today’s shelter-in-place was requested by law enforcement while they carried out the official action. We could not share additional details at the time because doing so could have jeopardized their process. Students and staff remained safe, and school continued as normally as possible.

At this time, the District has no reason to believe the alleged conduct occurred at a school, involved a Silver Schools student, or placed students in immediate danger. The investigation remains active, however, and the District will continue cooperating fully with law enforcement and reviewing any information provided to us. Like all Silver Schools employees, this individual underwent and passed the required background check before employment and completed the District’s mandatory annual training during his years of employment. Background checks and training are important safeguards, but they cannot always predict or prevent an individual’s future conduct, which is why employees must remain alert and immediately report concerns when they arise.

This situation demonstrates why Silver Schools provides mandatory-reporting training to employees every year, regardless of how long they have worked for Silver Schools. Our staff members are taught that when they see, hear, or become aware of something concerning, they must report it. In this case, a Silver Schools employee received concerning information and reported it to the school principal. That report allowed the District to take immediate action and notify the appropriate authorities.

Because this remains an active law-enforcement matter, the District cannot provide details regarding the allegations or potential charges. Questions concerning the criminal investigation should be directed to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

I understand that this news may concern our families and students. We will continue following the facts, cooperating with law enforcement, and taking every appropriate step to protect our students and staff. It’s difficult when someone you trust, respect, and care about makes choices that leave you feeling hurt, angry, frustrated, shocked, or even disbelief. Our staff and students will now try to reconcile those emotions with the sudden loss of a colleague, someone who was part of their daily lives. Please continue to pray for our Silver High School staff, students, and community as we support one another and navigate the difficult days ahead.

Mr. Hawkins
Superintendent Silver Consolidated Schools

πŸ“–πŸ““πŸ“”Our 3rd graders @ Stout have been learning about autobiographies and how authors share the stories of their own lives. To wrap up our study, students created an β€œAll About Me” Museum! Each student brought in special items that represented who they are, including their interests, hobbies, families, accomplishments, and favorite things. Students displayed their items and had the opportunity to walk through our museum, learn more about their classmates, and share the stories behind the things they chose.

It was such a fun way to bring our learning to life, while also building confidence, classroom community, and connections with one another! πŸ“šβ€οΈπŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ–€
