The Cuyahoga Falls and Silver Lake Police memorial service was held on Wednesday morning. This year 3 names were added to the wall from the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department. During the roll call, we remembered those officers who worked for Silver Lake and honor their memory.

Chief Clarence A. Linnard 07/19/1989
Chief William O. Ward 01/06/1994
Lieutenant William L. Morris 03/24/2011
Lieutenant Carl R. Harrison 08/16/2019
Chief Dennis A. Rook 03/29/2021

Mayor Dunphy read a proclamation declaring May 10th through May 16th National Police Week and gave the proclamation to Chief Justice.

During the evening, Light Ohio Blue hosted a procession of police cars starting in Stow and ending at the memorial where a candlelight vigil was held. Multiple Summit County agencies participated and despite the cold and rain, good fellowship was had.

Thanks to Scott Moss Magical Memories Photography for providing some of the photos.

The Cuyahoga Falls and Silver Lake Police Memorial and Honor Guard Foundation will host the annual Police Officers Memorial Service to pay tribute to fallen officers and those who have served on Wednesday, May 13th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Police Memorial, located at the Cuyahoga Falls Civic Center Campus, 2310 2nd Street.

"The Cuyahoga Falls Silver Lake Police Memorial stands as a lasting tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of the men and women who have served our communities with honor," said Steve Amos, Chairman of the Cuyahoga Falls and Silver Lake Police Memorial and Honor Guard Foundation (CFSLPMF).

The 2026 National Police Week will be observed from Sunday, May 10th, through Saturday, May 16th. Every year, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from all over the country come together to remember and honor those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
In addition to the memorial service, the Foundation is partnering with Light Ohio Blue to host a procession of police vehicles from departments across Summit and Portage counties. The procession is scheduled to arrive at the memorial at approximately 8:30 p.m., followed by a candlelight service.

The Cuyahoga Falls and Silver Lake Police Memorial and Honor Guard Foundation ask the public to show their support for their local law enforcement officers by displaying black and blue ribbons or flying a police memorial flag during the week. Memorial flags may be purchased from Falls Flag and Banner, with donations from each sale going to support the Foundation. With the support of city officials from Cuyahoga Falls and Silver Lake, more than 230 police memorial flags and banners will fly over city streets and other public buildings. Schools, businesses, and private residents will also be flying the flag. The Foundation believes this is one of the country's largest police memorial flag displays.

UPDATE: Thanks to eyewitnesses and the community's help, we have identified the three suspects, and are in discussions with the prosecutor to determine appropriate charges.

Thank you to all who provided camera footage and called in tips which were crucial in helping us determine who was responsible.

On Wednesday, April 29th around 8:40 PM, we received a call for shots fired at the Silver Lake Boathouse. Witnesses state there were three males hanging around the parking lot, one of which pulled a handgun out and fired three to four shots in the direction of the lake. The suspects then retreated to their newer model silver or gray Toyota Tacoma four door pick up truck and left the area, heading north on Silver Lake Blvd. When they got to the 3100 block of Silver Lake Blvd, they fired three more rounds from the truck. They were last seen heading south on Harriett towards Kent Rd.

Officers from Silver Lake, Stow, and Cuyahoga Falls checked the area but were unable to locate the truck or suspects.

At this point, there are no reports of damage to any structure or vehicle and there are no reported injuries. Spent shell casings were found at both locations. We are checking cameras to see if we can identify the suspects and the truck involved.

If you have any information or think your cameras may have caught anything on video, please call dispatch at 330-929-8771, and an officer will be out to speak with you.

Lately we have taken reports where the victim received a call from who they believed was a representative of their bank because the caller ID specified something like "CHASE BANK" as the caller. We would recommend calling your bank or going in person to your bank to validate the request. If you are ever unsure, please contact our department to further assist. Non-Emergency line is 330-929-8771.
