The House of (un) Representatives yesterday voted 212 - 212 on the Iran War Powers Resolution (WPR), a tie, so it did not pass. Jared Golden was once again the only D to vote wrong, against the measure. Three Rs voted right, two for the first time, Brian Fitzpatrick of PA and Tom Barrett of MI, both vulnerable in the November midterms. Thomas Massie of KY continued to vote in favor, as he has each time an Iran WPR has come up.
The Senate also barely failed to pass its WPR the other day, 49-50, with three Republicans voting in favor, two for the first time, Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Susan Collins (ME) joining Rand Paul (KY) who has consistently voted in favor. Even if both had passed the wannabe dictator Trump would veto, and there would not be the votes to override said veto, and it would not end the war immediately. But it would be Congress representing the will of the American people who solidly oppose this stupid senseless illegal war of aggression, and it would be Congress admitting that it is an unauthorized war.
There will be more War Powers votes coming as soon as early next week, on Iran and also Lebanon, so watch this space. The big problem will be when the bill comes due, and the administration is of course lying about the cost of the war saying it's only about $25 billion, whereas an independent estimate has it already at almost thrice that.
