LGBTQIA+ homelessness is a crisis we can't stay silent about 🏳️‍🌈🏠 This we're shining a light on a reality that doesn't get talked about enough.

LGBTQIA+ youth are over 120% more likely to experience homelessness than their non-LGBTQIA+ peers, and they make up as much as 40% of all youth experiencing homelessness, despite representing less than 10% of the overall youth population.

At Housing Unlimited, we believe that safe, affordable, and affirming housing is a right - not a privilege. We stand with the LGBTQIA+ community this month and every month, and we remain committed to ensuring that every individual in mental health recovery has a place to call home, no matter who they are or who they love🏡

This one hits different🏡 We are so proud to share Mitch Berkowitz's story. It’s why we do what we do.

When Mitch first came to Housing Unlimited, he needed a stable foundation to focus on his mental health recovery. Today? He's moved on to his very own place - fully independent and thriving. Watching that journey from the beginning to this full circle moment has been nothing short of incredible.

Mitch, your Housing Unlimited family is cheering you on every step of the way 👏If it moves you, consider supporting our mission through the link in the comments. More homes mean more stories like Mitch's🏠

Jon Pine was more than a Housing Unlimited tenant. He was a leader, an advocate, and a friend. A man who loved baseball, stood up against bullying, and showed us every single day what it looks like to truly belong to a community💙

Jon's story is a powerful reminder that is about so much more than a roof over your head. It's the foundation for growth, healing, and a life well-lived.

In his honor, we invite you to support the Pine Family Legacy Fund, helping us create even more stories of transformation right here in Montgomery County🏠 Click the link in the comments to give today and keep Jon's legacy alive🙌

Help us congratulate our 👏👏 Meet Peter Whitaker, who joined Housing Unlimited approximately two years ago and proudly serves as a Program Associate. Peter loves his work and finds inspiration in the resilience of the tenants he supports.

“When seeing people trying to do better, I can’t help but be amazed.”

Peter’s hands-on approach and genuine care help make a meaningful difference in the lives of those Housing Unlimited serves.

When he’s not spreading encouragement and smiles to tenants and staff, Peter enjoys jazz music, bicycling, and the outdoors. Thank you, Peter, for your compassion, dedication, and positive spirit!

May hosts both Week AND Month - and for us, those two things have never been separate. At Housing Unlimited, we've always known that a home isn't just a place to sleep. It's the foundation that makes recovery possible.

Swipe through to learn more about the connection between housing and mental health and why providing affordable, independent housing to individuals in mental health recovery is at the heart of everything we do🏠

If this resonates with you, consider supporting our mission through the link in our bio! This is why the work we are doing is so important for our community💙

Wait… how did we get here? 🏠

Housing Unlimited didn't start out looking exactly the way it does today. From our earliest days, we've been asking the same question: what do people in mental health recovery actually need to thrive?

The answer kept pointing us to one thing - independence. Not just a roof, but a space to call their own. A place to build a routine, grow their confidence, and show up for their community💙

That's why we made the intentional choice to focus on independent, affordable housing. Because we saw a gap and we knew we could help fill it.

Under RE-volv’s leadership, financing from Montgomery County Green Bank, and expert rooftop solar installation by Green Brilliance, Housing Unlimited has been able to come together and scale rooftop solar for many of our Housing Unlimited homes. As a result, we are making a difference in the community and at the same time lowering our utility bills. We are so grateful to these partners!
