Dear Briggs Chaney Families,

This is Dr. Campbell, principal of Briggs Chaney Middle School. I want to thank you for another great year at Briggs Chaney. Our students are absolutely amazing. They have worked hard and have accomplished much and are now ready for a summer of fun, relaxation and enrichment. To our recently promoted 8th graders, we wish you a successful start to high school. To our returning students, be sure to check our website this summer for required summer reading assignments, optional enrichment opportunities and the school supply list.

Good evening Briggs Chaney Community, this is Mr. Krasa with your weekly update for the week of June 19.

I would like to begin with wishing all of our dad's a Happy Father's Day! We hope you had a fun and relaxing day today and we appreciate all you to for our students at Briggs Chaney MS.

Monday, June 20 is the last day of school and we will be following an early release schedule where the school day will end at 12:30pm.

It has been an amazing school year and we would like to wish all of our 8th Graders the best of luck as they prepare to transition to Paint Branch, Springbrook and Blake High School next year. We are also proud of our 6th and 7th graders and we look forward to seeing them transition to 7th and 8th Grade as we welcome our incoming 6th Grade group. With that said, we would like to encourage all students and staff to wear their Briggs Chaney t-shirts to school on Monday. We want to show our PAW Pride and celebrate another great school year together!

Good evening 8th Grade parents. This is Dr. Campbell with an important announcement. The Promotion Ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 16 at 9:00 a.m. at Briggs Chaney Middle School. Two tickets have been mailed to the student’s home address. You must present these tickets to gain entry to the ceremony. Once you have entered, please do not exit the building. There will be no re-entry into the ceremony. The ceremony will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. The doors will close once the ceremony begins. Due to fire regulations, please do not bring additional family members, who do not have tickets, to the ceremony. If you have additional family members or friends who wish to celebrate your grade 8 students’ promotion, please plan this celebration after the Promotion Ceremony. You may sign your student out for the remainder of the day after the ceremony. There will be sign-out sheets available throughout the building. Thank you for your cooperation.

Hello Briggs Chaney Community, this is Mr. Krasa with your weekly update for the week of June 13.

As we plan for our Extended Year Summer program, we still have a few spots available. Please submit your application form to Ms. Cole on Monday, June 13. Information for our Extended Year Summer program is available on the school website. On Tuesday, June 14 students taking a World Language course will be taking the listening and written components of the MCPS county exam. Also, students taking Honors Geometry will be taking their MCPS county exam on Wed., June 15. Next, our final locker clean-out date is on Wed.. Students will need to bring something to school that will allow them to carry all of their personal belongings home.

Then the 8th grade Promotion Ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 16 at 9am in the gymnasium. This is a reminder that each grade 8 student had 2 tickets mailed home and parents will need to bring their ticket to the ceremony in order to enter the event.

Looking ahead to next week, the last day for students will be on Monday, June 20 and we will be following a half day schedule. Dismissal for students will be at 12:30 pm. Thank you everyone for another great year at Briggs Chaney Middle School and have a great week!

A big thank you to all the volunteers, teachers and staff who helped make the 8th Grade Dinner Dance a huge success! You all were amazing! I'd also like to give a shout out to our DJ, Jordan (Escapist Entertainment); Photo Booth operator, Sen (Click and Flick Photo Booth); and caterer Mission BBQ. All were five star worthy! ~Renee

Hello Briggs Chaney Community, this is Mr. Krasa with your weekly update for June 6.

On Monday, June 6 yearbooks will be distributed to students. Next, students taking a World Language course will take the oral assessment part of their semester exam during their regular scheduled class periods, starting Tuesday, June 7 and ending on Thursday, June 9. Summer school applications and funds are due by June 8. Please check the Briggs Chaney MS website or contact Charmagne Cole, Summer School Coordinator, for more information. Then on Wednesday, June 8 students that participated in the Safe School Ambassador program, will have a celebration meeting in the Media Center from 7-8pm.

As we quickly approach the end of the school year, we reserved Thursday, June 9 as a locker clean-out day. Students will need to clean out their locker and bring something to school that will help them place all of their personal belongings in to take home. Finally, Friday, June 10 is exam review day for students taking Honors Geometry and/or World Language classes. Then Friday night the 8th Grade Dinner Dance is scheduled to take place from 6:30-10:00pm. Parents, if your 8th grade child is planning on attending the 8th Grade Dinner Dance, please make transportation arrangements to have your child picked up from school by 10pm.

Looking ahead to next week, the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will take place Thursday, June 16 at 9:00 a.m. in the gymnasium. Two tickets have been mailed to the student’s address on file. Please keep these tickets in a safe place. You must present the tickets at the time of the Promotion to enter the gym. Due to fire regulations, only two tickets per student will be issued. If you have any questions, please contact the Main Office at 301-288-8300. Also, students taking a World Language exam will take the county assessment on Tuesday, June 14. Then students taking Honors Geometry will be taking their exam on Wednesday, June 15. A copy of the semester exam schedule will be attached to the connect ed e-mail.

Hello Briggs Chaney Community, this is Mr. Krasa with your weekly update for May 30.

On Monday, May 30 schools will be closed in honor of Memorial Day. A special thank you goes out to all of our community members that have served in the armed forces and it is also a time for us to honor all of our soldiers that have died serving our country.

PARCC testing has now been completed and students will return back to their normal bell schedule on Tuesday, May 31. On Wednesday, June 1, our 7th graders will have an assembly at 2:15pm and the assembly will feature the 6th, 7th and 8th grade chorus program. For Grade 8 students, this is a reminder that your permission slips to attend the Smokey Glen field trip on Friday, June 3 are due on Wed.. Then at 7pm on Wednesday, our Spring Choral Concert is scheduled to take place.

Next, our annual awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 2. A copy of the grade 6, 7, and 8 Awards Ceremony programs are availble on the school website.

Then on Friday, June 3, 6th graders will be having their field day event at Briggs Chaney MS, 7th graders will be going on a field trip to the Smithsonian Zoo and 8th graders will be attending their field trip to Smokey Glen.

Finally, the due date for the Dinner Dance permission slips and money for 8th Grade students has been extended to Friday, June 3. Then summer school applications and funds are due by June 8. Please check the Briggs Chaney MS website or contact Charmagne Cole, Summer School Coordinator, for more information.

Hello Briggs Chaney community, this is Mr. Krasa with your weekly update for May 23rd.
As we prepare for week 3 of PARCC testing, Grade 8 students will be taking the ELA assessment on Monday. Grade 7 students will be completing the math 7 or Algebra PARCC assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then Grade 8 will be taking the math 8 or Algebra PARCC assessment on Thursday and Friday.

Next, Outdoor Ed is scheduled to take place this week. Trailblazers will be at Outdoor Ed from Monday, May 23 to Wed., May, 25. Then our Pathfinders will be at Outdoor Ed from Wed., May 25 to Friday, May 27. A copy of our Outdoor Education packet is available on our school website and will also be attached to the Connect Ed e-mail.

On Wed., May 2 our 8th graders will have an assembly at 2:15pm and will feature our 7th/8th grade orchestra and the 8th grade band. Then at 7pm, our Spring Instrumental Concert is scheduled to take place in the cafeteria. Student, parents and community members are welcome to join us.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone that our annual Awards Ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 2 this year.
