Official Announcement!

The Comfort House Board has formally approved a transition plan to transfer stewardship of our charitable mission and assets to a qualified Northern Nevada public charity, effective March 1, 2026.

This process is being conducted in full compliance with nonprofit governance standards and IRS regulations to ensure continued charitable use in service of rural Nevada children.

Final documentation and approvals remain in progress. The name of the successor organization will be shared once those steps are complete.

We remain committed to transparency, integrity, and long-term sustainability.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the donors and community partners whose investment ensured that this mission will continue serving rural Nevada children beyond this transition.

With much hope,
Gina Armstrong

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Comfort House Foster Home Announces Request for Proposals to Support an Exciting Next Chapter of Trauma-Informed Care

Silver Springs, NV, January 15, 2026, The Comfort House, a trauma-informed, family-style foster home serving primarily teens in rural Northern Nevada, is pleased to announce the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) inviting qualified individuals or organizations to help steward the program into its next phase of growth and long-term sustainability.

Since its inception in February 2024, The Comfort House has worked to provide a safe, healing home for children in rural Northern NV, impacted by trauma, instability, and system disruption. Grounded in the belief that children heal best in consistent, nurturing environments, the home has focused on individualized care, trauma-informed practices, and strong community connection.

“This RFP represents a moment of possibility,” said Gina Armstrong, Founder and Executive Director of The Comfort House. “We are proud of what has been built here, and we are excited to explore thoughtful, values-aligned partnerships that can help this home continue to grow and thrive for years to come.”

The RFP invites proposals from experienced foster care operators, nonprofit organizations, or qualified individuals who bring:

A strong understanding of trauma-informed, family-style foster care

Capacity for ethical, sustainable program operations

Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising, community partnerships, or public/private funding models

A child-centered approach aligned with The Comfort House’s mission and values.

Issuing the RFP reflects The Comfort House’s commitment to proactive planning, transparency, and continuity of care.

“This step allows us to be intentional and hopeful about the future,” Armstrong added. “Our responsibility is, and always will be, to the children. By exploring future leadership and operational models now, we can ensure this home remains stable, nurturing, and rooted in the philosophy that built it.”

Proposals will be reviewed by The Comfort House Board of Directors with an emphasis on collaboration, sustainability, and preserving the home’s trauma-informed, family-style culture.

The full RFP document, including submission guidelines and timelines, is available upon request at [email protected].

We did the same thing for Christmas that we did for Thanksgiving...go out and do something completely new! It was definitely an adventure with me and 7 kids and kept everyone's mind sufficiently off of missing home. At least as much as possible. All in all we had a very Merry Christmas thanks to family, friends, and some super giving donors who gave the kids the most beautiful gifts. Thank you Kiwanis Club Dayton Township NV . You went way above and beyond!!!!!! I've posted what I can while keeping privacy intact.

The kids and I decided together that a great way to avoid depression over the Thanksgiving holiday would be to do something totally different than anything we've ever done...and what a wonderful holiday it was for all of us.

We also want to send a HUGE thank you to our anonymous donor that paid the way for The Comfort House to have this Learning for Life experience! Together we really are making a difference.

Check out the short videos to see some live footage of our Humpback Whale sightings in Monterey, CA. Utterly breathtaking.

Part of our foster care program is to provide what we call, "learning for life," experiences several times a year, for every child in our care. These experiences are meant to be low-pressure opportunities to have fun and be a kid, but they are also strategically designed for optimum healing power. Tonight I had the honor of accompanying a couple of our teens on a nice little road trip and to see John Legend Live. It was one of the most inspiring concerts I have ever been to and the teens were grinning from ear to ear as we walked out of the Venue.

Why Taking a Teen to a Concert can be Trauma-Informed Care

For teens who have lived through trauma, healing happens through experiences that rebuild trust, joy, and emotional regulation. An uplifting concert is more than entertainment — it’s a powerful mental-health intervention.

Music regulates the brain.
Live music activates healthy dopamine, calms the nervous system, and reduces anxiety and depression. For trauma-impacted teens, this creates a sense of safety inside their own bodies.

Joy is corrective.
Many teens in care have lived in survival mode. Laughing, dancing, and feeling excited begins to rewrite the belief that life is only hard. Joy becomes medicine.

Shared experiences build trust.
Going to a concert together creates connection in a safe, low-pressure way. It shows the teen that adults can be consistent, fun, and trustworthy — a core part of trauma repair.

Positive messages strengthen identity.
Uplifting lyrics and inspiring artists help teens imagine a future for themselves. They internalize hope, resilience, and self-worth.

Belonging boosts mental health.
Standing in a crowd where people celebrate music reminds teens they are part of something bigger than their trauma. It reduces isolation and increases confidence.

In trauma-informed care, these moments matter.
A single concert can give a teenager joy, regulation, connection, and a vision of what their life can feel like — and that is essential to healing.

When The Comfort House first began, we spent months campaigning for the cause before we even knew exactly how we were going to get there. People were excited—because the need was so clear—but calling them “a little skeptical” would be an understatement.

But not the Kiwanis Club Dayton Township NV!

Instead of placing us on the back burner until we “maybe” opened a foster-care home, they invited us in right away to share our vision. And when we showed up, they surprised us with one of those giant checks I had only ever seen in pictures—except this one had The Comfort House written on it. It was our very first community partner cash donation.

Since that day, the Kiwanis Club Dayton Township NV have stayed by our side, always thinking about our kids and what we might need to keep this dream alive.

Thank you again, Kiwanis of Dayton. It’s safe to say we could not do this without people and partners like you.

We were happy to be able to give The Comfort House a cash donation today to help them with their fosters! (And no, not one of us can take great selfies! 😆)
