🚨 We’re Hiring! 🚨

The Eastside Joint Fire District is looking for community members interested in helping support our local fire and emergency services!

We are currently accepting applications for two part-time positions:

• Treasurer
• Secretary

The newly formed district includes the fire departments of Castile, Gainesville, and Silver Springs, working together to serve our communities.

We’re looking for dependable, organized individuals who want to give back and be part of something important. Whether you have bookkeeping experience or administrative skills, we encourage you to apply!

📍 Approximately 32 hours per month
📅 Applications due by June 19, 2026

Join us for our annual Chicken BBQ Take-Out Only Dinner on Sunday, June 7th from Noon–2:30 PM at the Fire Hall, located at 43 North Main Street, Silver Springs.

🚒🔥SILVER SPRINGS FIRE DEPARTMENT OPEN HOUSE 🔥🚒

Have you ever wondered what it’s like behind the truck or the sirens? Now is your chance to find out.
The Silver Springs Fire Department is hosting an Open House and Recruitment Day this Saturday. Whether you’re interested in the adrenaline of firefighting, the training and leadership, maintaining of equipment and gear. If that’s not for you and or you just want to see how you can help your neighbors, we want to meet you.

Saturday, April 18th | 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM

43 North Main St., Silver Springs

Being a firefighter is about more than just the calls, and sirens and trucks. It’s about training, community, and having the back of the person standing next to you. Our officers and crew will be on-site all day to answer questions about the gear, the time commitment, and what it takes to join the ranks.
We’re looking for the next generation of Silver Springs volunteers. Will it be you?
Stop by the station, grab some info, and see the trucks up close. We hope to see you Saturday!

As part of the annual RecruitNY statewide initiative, the select Wyoming County Fire & EMS departments will open their doors so residents can learn how they can serve their communities.

Throughout the weekend, departments may conduct tours of the station and apparatus, demonstrate activities, provide information, and address questions on becoming a member. These activities give visitors a taste of what it means to be in the volunteer service. Volunteer first responders will also be on hand to discuss the requirements and rewards of joining. All are welcome and encouraged to attend, including families with children.

**TRAVEL ADVISORY- NO UNNECESSARY TRAVEL**

Effective January 19, 2026 at 2:50pm, Wyoming County Sheriff David Linder has issued a NO UNNECESSARY TRAVEL ADVISORY for all of Wyoming County. The roads are NOT closed, however; the extreme weather combination of snow, wind and cold has created blizzard conditions and travel is extremely hazardous. The visibility is very poor and near zero in prone areas along with slippery and drifting roadways. North/South roads are particularly hazardous. The Wyoming County Sheriff does not determine the necessity of an individual’s obligation to travel. This is an advisory only and remains in effect until further notice.
