Working smoke alarms save lives!

In coordination with Community Risk Reduction Firefighter Matt Guenther and NAPA of Silverton, NAPA has generously donated 500 9V batteries to be distributed to local communities via Silverton Fire District’s Smoke Alarm program!

This means fresh batteries in smoke alarms for over 100 homes!

Community partnerships like Silverton Fire and NAPA working together to contribute to the safety and well-being of our community and allow your tax dollars to go further in our mission to provide Fire Safety to the communities we love to serve!

Have you changed your batteries lately? Are your smoke alarms out of date? Are you able to climb a ladder to check them? Give us a call, let us help you with your smoke alarms!

We were happy to host the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office this week for a demonstration highlighting the dangers of lithium-ion batteries and thermal runaway.

October is Fire Prevention Month, and we encourage everyone to take a few minutes to review these important safety tips from OSFM!

Come grab some food, check out the trucks and station, meet your local firefighters, play some games, and pick up some free SFD gear!

Open Houses continue each night this week at a different Silverton Fire District station. This year, as part of Fire Prevention Month, we’ll also be sharing information about lithium-ion battery safety and simple steps you can take to prevent fires at home.

October is Fire Prevention Month!

To celebrate, Silverton Fire District is opening our doors to the community!

Join us October 5–9 from 6:00–8:00 PM as we host an Open House at a different fire station each night.
Bring the whole family out for free food, games, station tours, fire trucks, and a chance to meet your local firefighters!

This year we’ll also be highlighting lithium-ion battery safety and sharing simple steps you can take to safely use, charge, store, and dispose of the batteries that power so many of our everyday devices.

October 5–9
6:00–8:00 PM each evening

Fire Prevention Month is all about helping keep our homes and communities safer, and we’d love to have you join us.

As the year starts to wind down, we tend to look forward, to the possibilities of what next year holds for us. The things we want to accomplish, things we’ve been wanting to do for a long time…what we can do for our community, how we can give back, how we can help. YOUR Silverton Fire District has a great outlet for that! Ever thought about being a firefighter, but still have a “day job”? We have a spot for that. Don’t want to “run into burning buildings”? We have a spot for that. Just want to drive a water tender? We have a spot for that. Don’t want to really “do Firefighter things” but still want to be involved? We have a spot for that, too! October is our last push for accepting Volunteer applications, interviews, testing, etc..before the holiday season arrives, and academy starts (in January). That means there’s still time to sign up! Come see “LT Dan” at our Open Houses October 5th-9th at each of our 5 Fire Stations. He’ll give you the rundown on how it works, how you can be involved, how you can make a difference in the community, and what your options are to become a Volunteer with us! Training, gear and uniforms are all free. We just ask for your time, dedication, and a positive, can-do attitude to join our team. We come from all different backgrounds and walks of life, and we’re proud to serve the Silverton and Scotts Mills communities…but we need YOUR skills, YOUR life experiences, heck, we really just need YOU to VOLUNTEER!!

Today we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001 and honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members and civilians whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Seeing smoke columns around the area today? There is a significant amount of agricultural field burning taking place throughout the region.

We’re sharing this information from the Oregon Department of Agriculture to help provide some context for the smoke you may be seeing in and around our area.

THUR 9/10 -- Prep burning is scheduled today from 1:00-3:00pm in the Drakes Crossing, Stayton, Silverton, and Sublimity fire districts.

In order to participate in the program, growers must provide trained staff, sufficient water, and flaggers for fields near roadways and burns are only authorized when conditions are favorable and smoke can be evacuated up and out of the Willamette Valley.
