The Silverton Volunteer Fire Department received a 911 call at 6:50pm last night for suspected smoke at Animas Forks. Two firefighters deployed on dirt bikes to confirm whether or not a tree was struck by lightening. With confirmation of a tree struck by lightning, the Department deployed a total of 13 personnel on two SxS. Remaining staff remained on standby and to ensure that Town of Silverton had resources in the event of an emergency. Fire personnel were able to extinguish the fire and return to town at 9:30pm.
All crew members returned home safe and sound at 10:15pm once supplies and trucks were replenished.
