It is with heavy hearts that the Simms Fire Department announces the passing of one of our longest-tenured members, Paul Beard.
Paul faithfully served the community of Simms for more than 30 years. Throughout those years, he dedicated countless hours to protecting and serving the people of this community. Paul was also a devoted follower of Christ and brought his faith and ministry into the Simms community in the way he lived and served others.
Paul served the department for many years as Fire Chief, leading with humility, integrity, and a deep commitment to the department and its members. In time, he chose to step down as Chief so the younger generation could take the lead, wanting to watch the department continue to grow and succeed. That decision reflected the selfless leadership and character that defined him.
In addition to his service with the fire department, Paul proudly served our country as a member of the Texas National Guard. He was a member of the Bowie County Dive Team also.
Paul’s experience, wisdom, stubborn determination, and genuine love for those around him made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him. His legacy will continue to live on in this department and throughout the community he cared for so deeply.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul’s family, friends, and all who knew him during this difficult time.
End of Watch: March 4, 2026

Paul was truly one of a kind and will be missed dearly.
