Heat Safety Reminder: Look Before You Lock

As temperatures rise across Southeast Texas, remember that a vehicle can become dangerously hot in just minutes—even when outside temperatures seem mild.

🚗 At just 80°F outside, the temperature inside a vehicle can reach:
• 99°F in 10 minutes
• 109°F in 20 minutes
• 114°F in 30 minutes
• 123°F in 60 minutes

⚠️ Never leave children, pets, older adults, or anyone unable to exit a vehicle on their own unattended in a car—even for a short time.

Heat Safety Tips:
✔ Look before you lock your vehicle
✔ Place a purse, phone, or other essential item in the back seat as a reminder
✔ Keep vehicles locked when not in use
✔ Check vehicles before walking away
✔ If you see a child or pet alone in a vehicle, call 9-1-1 immediately

Every heat-related death is preventable. A quick check can save a life.

First Gulf System of the 2026 Hurricane Season Forms

The National Hurricane Center has initiated advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone One, marking the first tropical system of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season in the Gulf.

Current forecasts indicate the system will track northeastward across the western Gulf and may briefly strengthen into a tropical storm before making landfall along the Upper Texas Coast or Louisiana coastline.

What Fort Bend County Residents Should Know:
🌧️ Heavy rainfall remains the primary threat for Southeast Texas.
⚠️ Life-threatening flash flooding and urban flooding will be possible, especially in areas that receive repeated rounds of rainfall.
🌊 Elevated water levels and minor coastal impacts are possible along the coast.
💨 Gusty winds may accompany stronger rain bands as the system approaches.

Current Forecast:
• Maximum sustained winds: 30 mph
• Movement: Northeast at 6 mph
• Tropical Storm Watch in effect for portions of the Upper Texas Coast

Now is the time to:
✔ Review your emergency plans
✔ Check multiple ways to receive warnings and alerts
✔ Prepare for possible travel impacts and localized flooding
✔ Monitor forecasts closely as conditions and impacts may change

Fort Bend County Emergency Management is actively monitoring this system and will continue providing updates as new information becomes available.
