What happens when we check out people instead of books?
On March 28, the Simsbury DEI Council and Simsbury Public Library hosted The Human Library event to help our community "unjudge someone." Through honest conversations with our incredible "Human Books," we broke down stereotypes and built empathy. Check out the photos from this powerful day! We hope you can join us next year.

Forwarded from our friends in Avon.

Good Afternoon.
I hope you receive this email in good health.

My name is Hanifa Shaikh and I am the Program Manager at Farmington Valley American Muslim Center (FVAMC), in Avon CT.

On January 9th , 2025, Governor Lamont proclaimed recognizing January as Muslim Heritage Month in Connecticut. This marks a significant milestone for our community, providing an opportunity to highlight Islam and celebrate Muslim culture throughout the month of January.

In addition, the month of Ramadan is approaching soon. It's a special month of the year for over 1.8 billion Muslims throughout the world. It is a time for inner reflection, discipline, giving charity, purifying one’s behavior, and doing honorable deeds as a means of coming closer to God.

On the behalf of The Farmington Valley American Muslim Center (FVAMC) would like to invite you, your family, friends and colleagues to an open house and special event, to attend our upcoming January program, Salam Ramadan on January 31, 2026.

We would be honored for you to join us and learn more about the local Muslim community and the significance of this holy month for Muslims around the world.

The event will feature an informative presentation on the essence of Ramadan, followed by an engaging open-floor discussion and Q&A session. The evening will conclude with a delightful meal, fostering community and camaraderie.
