Ashley Hinson is most focused on protecting her bottom line in Congress.

While Iowans have been struggling with a rising cost of living crisis and unaffordable health insurance, she’s been busy lining her pockets with her massive stock portfolio worth millions.

She went to Congress and increased her net worth by up to 10 times – and didn’t serve Iowans.

Instead, she’s giving preferential treatment for her fellow millionaire and billionaire friends over Iowans who can’t afford health insurance and struggle to access rural healthcare.

She voted to cut taxes for the wealthiest 1 percent by more than $100 billion

At the same time she said she was “proud” of her vote for the biggest cuts to Medicaid in history to pay for their tax handouts.

Iowa can’t afford to have our next U.S. Senator spend more time checking her investment portfolio than Iowans’ family budgets.

We hope to see you there!

In Solidarity,

Ryan Akerberg
Chair, WCDP

So we had to hide some hateful comments on our Pride posts from this weekend (don't feed the trolls) but we have a responsibility to say something more. This is an example of why we need Pride and why visibility and advocacy matter.

Pride is more than just a parade. Politics is personal. There is a ton of legislative hate in Iowa, especially towards transgender adults and youth. This has horrific consequences. The Trevor Project's mental health survey has found again and again that LGBTQIA+ young people are at "higher risk for su***de not because of who they are, but as a result of how they are mistreated and stigmatized". But thankfully, community and care makes a huge difference. Just one accepting adult can reduce the risk of a su***de attempt by 40 percent. See their website and resources here: 🔗https://www.thetrevorproject.org/research-briefs

Take the time to read up on what we can learn from the history of LGBTQIA+ resistance and advocacy. Off Beat History has a moving article on the origins of Pride here:

It comes down to the refusal to be annihilated and demanding not just change and equality, but liberation for ourselves and our neighbors.

It's our job to continually show the community at large that we will not stand for the persecution of our loved ones and neighbors and we will hold accountable those leaders who sow hatred.

"LGBTQIA+ identities deserve to be celebrated openly, with joy and resistance" (OffBeatHistory). ❤️🩷🧡💛💚💙🩵💜🤎🖤🩶🤍✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
