❤️ Meet the Need Monday — The Warming Shelter

Hello Siouxland!

As we move through the week, we’re asking our community to help us meet some very real, very immediate needs at The Warming Shelter. These items may seem small, but they make a tremendous difference in the comfort, health, and daily stability of our guests.

Many of our clients walk long distances, battle chronic health issues, and face the challenges of living without consistent access to basic care. Your donations help us provide relief, dignity, and a moment of comfort in a very difficult season of their lives.

🧼 Current Needs This Week
We are in need of the following essential items:

Bar soap
Tylenol
Ibuprofen
Tums
Cough drops
DayQuil
Peanut butter
Paper towels
Toilet paper
Plastic knives
Plastic spoons
Plastic forks

🌟 Why These Items Matter
A simple pain reliever can help someone get through a work shift.
A jar of peanut butter can feed someone for days.
Basic hygiene items help restore dignity and confidence.
Paper goods and utensils keep our shelter running smoothly and safely.

Every donation — big or small — directly supports someone who is working hard to rebuild their life. You help us offer comfort, care, and hope.

We’re excited to announce that The Warming Shelter is now recruiting an AmeriCorps Mentorship & Community Engagement Coordinator through the Iowa Community Corps / Youth Mental Health Corps.

This role helps save lives, restore hope, and strengthen our Rise Up Mentorship Program supporting youth mental health, connecting individuals to resources, and building meaningful relationships that change futures.

If you or someone you know is 18–24 and passionate about making a difference, this is a powerful opportunity to grow, serve, and lead.

The Warming Shelter exists to provide safety, stability, and compassionate services that allow individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Siouxland to REBUILD. 💪

Every day, our team works to identify gaps, bridge them, and offer the tools people need to build strong foundations and move toward long‑term stability.

Events like Sunday Funday for a Cause help us continue this mission. When you sign up, show up, or share the event, you’re directly supporting life‑saving services, trauma‑informed care, and real pathways to hope.

Join us on September 27th have fun, build community, and help us continue the work that matters most.

Think Habitat homeownership might not be for you because you have a good job? Think again.

Of the top 10 jobs held by Hoosiers, all but one have annual wages that can fall within Habitat's income guidelines for at least some household sizes, including teachers and first responders.

That's important because Habitat is not giving homes away.

Habitat partners with working families who have a need for affordable housing and the ability to pay an affordable mortgage. Selected families purchase their home with an affordable mortgage (currently at 0% interest) and complete 200+ hours of "sweat equity" through construction, education and community service.

You may be working hard every day and still find that homeownership is out of reach.

That is the gap Habitat is here to help bridge.

Our homeownership application period is OPEN through September 30.
