The hot and humid conditions will continue with highs mainly in the 80s to 90s for the week. Otherwise, periodic shower and thunderstorm chances are expected with the focus being on Tuesday and Thursday.

A mostly quiet middle of the week is on tap, with highs in the 80s today, and upper 70s to mid 80s Wednesday & Thursday. Storm chances return late Friday into Friday night, with sporadic low storm chances continuing through the upcoming weekend.

IF a storm can develop later today, it may quickly become severe. The main risks are two inch hail and 75 mph wind gusts. Timing of greatest concern remains 4 PM to midnight.

Monday Morning Update | 4:15 AM 8/17/2026

After morning isolated storms in SD and patchy fog, attention turns to this afternoon and evening when isolated to scattered storms return to the area. A few storms could be strong to severe, with hail up to 2 inches and 65 mph wind gusts as the main threats. A tornado cannot be ruled out. Keep an eye on the forecast through the day for updates.

A few additional showers and thunderstorms will continue this afternoon into the early evening hours, mainly south of I-90. Portions of the Hwy 20 corridor in northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa have seen recent significant rainfall and thus if these same areas receive additional heavy rain this afternoon, some localized flooding issues may result. This would mainly be in the form of urban street flooding and ponding of water in low lying and flood prone areas.

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southwestern Woodbury County in west central Iowa...

* Until 845 AM CDT.

* At 538 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between
1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1
inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...Sloan and Hornick.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
