We are back in action and we need working class South Dakotans who believe in freedom, equality, and democracy to help us build our chapter.

Our chapter-building efforts have taken a hiatus. We are a small group of regular working-class folks who go to school, work jobs, and have bills to pay and families to feed. But with abuses against the working class escalating rapidly, and on the heels of the victory of DSA cadre candidate Zohran Mamdani in the NYC mayoral race, the need is URGENT and the energy is NOW. We can’t wait any longer. Meetings are resuming and we want you to be part of them.

We are a member-funded and member-organized socialist organization who believes that society should be managed democratically by all for the welfare of all, not by the wealthy toward their own self-enrichment. If you believe this too, then hit up dsaUSA.org/JOIN and send us a message to learn how to get involved.

🌹 Sioux Empire DSA will be having a GENERAL MEETING tonight @ 8PM on Zoom! We hope to see all our members turn out! Never been to a DSA meeting but want to see what we are all about? Send us a message, it’s a great time to get involved!

We will be discussing Amendment G and determining the best strategy for our Trans Rights + Bodily Autonomy Committee to support it. We will plan an anti-imperialist movie night showcasing a revolutionary film. We will chat about our Field Organizer from DSA National’s upcoming visit to meet with our chapter and offer a training. And lastly, we will vote on a new timeslot for our reading group to continue meeting and studying Rashid Khalidi’s The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine.

See you there, comrades! 🌹

Love it or hate it, everyone has an opinion on it.. while relatively few have really studied it. Have you been waiting for the right opportunity to read (or re-read) Karl Marx’s Capital? You’re in luck! DSA’s National Political Education Committee is putting together a nationwide reading group with comrades all over the country.

One of the most influential books of all time, this critique of political economy and epic philosophical tome have changed the world in innumerable ways.

“For Marx, our global economic system is relentlessly driven by “value”—to produce it, capture it, trade it, and, most of all, to increase it. Lifespans are shortened under the demand for ever-greater value. Days are lengthened, work is intensified, and the division of labor deepens until it leaves two classes, owners and workers, in constant struggle for life and livelihood. In Capital, Marx reveals how value came to tyrannize our world, and how the history of capital is a chronicle of bloodshed, colonization, and enslavement.”

Become a member of Sioux Empire DSA (or your nearest local chapter) today and join us as we embark on an exploration of Vol. 1 of Capital . Whether you’re a Marxist or not, this is a critical text for understanding the world today - and it’s always more enriching to learn along with comrades 🙂

Two cartel parties with two candidates, both united around what’s important to the ruling class: continuing to support the apartheid state of Israel and arming/funding the genocide in Gaza, stoking racialized fears about countries like China, and offering tax breaks to billionaires.

They don’t represent the working class. What is it that we, as workers, must demand? True democracy for the working class! An economy for the working class! Thriving communities for workers and foreign policy that reflects our values. But will either of these parties, or any of their candidates, offer them to us? Time and time again they remind us that regardless of their rhetorical positioning, they both have the same answer: NO.

We need a mass working class party, independent from the two cartel parties, self-funded and not beholden to funding from the capitalist class. Our party will fight for democratization in every sphere of life! We will demand proportional representation, the curtailment of judicial review, a sustainable work week, a comfortable living income for all workers, a Green New Deal to save our planet, and the raising of taxes on for-profit corporations and the über-wealthy elites who control them. We will build the power to demilitarize the police, end the War on Drugs, and combat the Crisis of Despair (drug addiction, mental illness, and suicidality) making the world kinder and safer for all people. We can make families healthier and safer by maintaining universal rent control, protecting bodily autonomy, providing Medicare for All, and ensuring paid family leave and universal childcare. Around the world, we could bring our troops home, end persecutory sanctions, slash the unprecedented military budget, and see a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and everywhere else that the imperialist war machine continues to devastate.

Sound like a pipe dream? Kamala would have you believe it’s a utopian impossibility, and Trump would have you believe it’s a dystopian nightmare. The truth is that this is our real potential as a class - but only if we can organize ourselves as an independent party. We can do it together.

A better world is possible. Join DSA.

04/28/2024

Sioux Empire DSA supports the NEC’s unanimous decision to forward the vote on the re-endorsement of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to the NPC. Given that the 2023 Convention passed an amendment to NPC Recommendation #8 that outlines red lines on Palestinian liberation for consideration on national endorsements, we trust that the NPC – as our democratically-elected leadership body – will honor the democratic will of our organization and has the framework to do so. The proposed referendum would undermine the democratic consensus of Convention, which results from months of debate and deliberation by the whole organization, against a hastily assembled online poll - a detrimental precedent we must not establish.

Furthermore, Sioux Empire DSA opposes renewing DSA’s endorsement of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her decisions that are antithetical to DSA’s platform – her vote against the railroad workers’ right to strike and her signature on a recent statement of support for funding Israel’s Iron Dome and affirmation of the Zionist regime’s “right to self-defense” during its ongoing campaign of genocide against the Palestinian people. We reaffirm the red lines on Palestinian liberation passed by Convention delegation last summer and hope to see DSA move on from “representatives” who will not honor the self-determination of the Palestinian people in both word and deed.
