The Foster Network

The Foster Network The Foster Network will empower and support families with children placed by a licensing agency. We provide essential resources for children in foster care.

Since our organization began in 2012, The Foster Network has supported local foster families in Sioux Falls, SD, and the surrounding area. This includes access to support groups, events, scholarship opportunities, bedroom furniture access, and The Closet, where foster families can receive clothing, supplies, and toys for the children they are fostering. We aim to ensure families have reliable and

safe access to the necessary resources to create happy and loving homes. For more information about The Closet and to make an appointment, visit https://www.thefosternet.org/the-closet. ⭐️ Wish List Wednesday: We’re Wishing for Volunteers! ⭐️

Could you give two hours each week to support the foster, kinship, and adoptive children and families we serve?

We’re looking for several more volunteers who can commit to giving two hours each week. Even if your day or time needs to shift occasionally, volunteering regularly helps you get to know The Closet and our needs, so you can jump in and make an even bigger impact each time you’re here.

Volunteer hours are available:
Monday & Wednesday: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
Tuesday & Thursday: 10:30 AM–7:30 PM

Weekly volunteer needs may include sorting donations, sizing and hanging clothing, stocking shelves, moving rolling carts throughout our facility, and helping with basic cleaning and organization.

To help us prepare for your visit, please sign up before coming in. Complete our volunteer form to connect with us for a tour and conversation about how your interests, abilities, and availability can best support the kids and families we serve:

📸 Kaitlin is here with a quick update about Family Photo Day on September 17!

Thanks to an incredible response, our photographer spots are covered! Our greatest need now is for volunteers to serve as ushers and help keep families entertained, organized, and ready when it’s their turn for photos.

It’s a simple way to help create a fun and welcoming experience for the families joining us. 🩵

We are so grateful for the generosity of our friends at Architecture Incorporated! 🩵

Thank you for spending time with us, learning more about the work happening at The Foster Network, and choosing to support the children and families we serve with this generous $500 donation.

We loved hosting your team today!

This morning, we had the opportunity to support The Foster Network in Sioux Falls with a donation, also gaining a tour of the facility and hearing from the Executive Director, Stacy Stahl, about the meaningful work the organization does to support children and families in the foster care system. 🏠✨

The Foster Network provides:
🔵 A private, supportive space for children to choose clothing and other necessities when they first enter foster care and as they grow
🔵 Free events that connect foster children and families wither others who share similar experiences
🔵 Financial support for larger foster-family expenses, such as bedrooms for sibling groups or camp
🔵 Educational resources to help foster parents navigate the challenges of foster care

We are so grateful for our friends at the Sioux Falls Canaries! ⚾️

Last Friday, the Canaries generously provided 100 tickets for children and families served by The Foster Network to enjoy a night at the ballpark, complete with activities, face painting, and post-game fireworks.

What makes this especially meaningful is that it wasn’t the first time the Canaries have created an opportunity like this for our families. Over the past several months, they have continued to welcome children and caregivers to the ballpark to spend time together, have fun, and cheer on the home team.

We truly value this partnership and the experiences it has made possible for our families. Thank you, Sioux Falls Canaries, for being such a wonderful community partner! 🩵

As we look back at some of the moments from this year’s School Year Kickoff, we are incredibly grateful for the community support that helped The Foster Network serve 524 children throughout the back-to-school season, a nearly 13% increase over last year.

On August 1, 358 children joined us for School Year Kickoff, where families could find shoes, socks, underwear, backpacks, resources, and plenty of fun to help children feel ready and excited for the new school year. In the weeks following the event, another 166 children visited The Closet for back-to-school needs.

The continued growth in the number of children we serve shows just how important it is to have a community willing to wrap around foster, kinship, and adoptive families. From those who hosted drives and donated needed items to the businesses and organizations that sponsored School Year Kickoff, so many people played a part in making this back-to-school season possible.

Planning for next year is already underway, and we would love to involve even more of our community. If your business, church, organization, or group is interested in sponsoring, hosting a drive, or getting involved in next year’s back-to-school efforts, send us a message to start the conversation.

Thank you to everyone who helped us serve 524 children this back-to-school season. 🩵

A big thank you to the City of Sioux Falls - Municipal Government Planning & Development Services team for spending time volunteering at The Closet! 🩵

Members of their department joined us for three volunteer shifts throughout August, jumping in to help with the work that keeps The Closet organized, stocked, and ready to serve families.

After their final volunteer day, their coordinator shared how meaningful the experience was for their team and how much they appreciated seeing firsthand the impact The Foster Network has on foster, kinship, and adoptive families in our community. She also shared that their team would love to come back and help get more groups involved in the future.

We are so grateful to the City of Sioux Falls Planning & Development Services team for giving their time and being so willing to jump in wherever help was needed. Thank you for spending part of your August with us!

Our community showed up in a BIG way for School Year Kickoff! 🩵

In the weeks leading up to the event, businesses, organizations, churches, groups, and individuals hosted drives to help us collect the shoes and underwear needed for the children we would serve. Because of their generosity and the support of everyone who donated, we were able to fill tables and shelves with items for kids to choose from on event day.

A huge thank you to each of our drive hosts and supporters:

Talk about showing up at just the right time! 🙌

Yesterday, a team of 12 from Dorsey & Whitney LLP spent two hours volunteering with us, and we were so grateful to have the extra hands.

Earlier that day, families had shopped many of our pants shelves nearly bare, so the team jumped right in to restock The Closet and replenish our backstock for the families coming in next.

They also helped us begin sorting seasonal items as we prepare for fall and worked through the many donations our community continues to share with us. That included sorting what can go directly into The Closet for foster, kinship, and adoptive families, as well as items we can pay forward to our nonprofit partners.

It was an afternoon filled with the kind of behind-the-scenes work that makes such a difference in keeping The Closet organized, stocked, and ready for families.

Thank you, Dorsey & Whitney, for choosing to spend your afternoon with us. We truly appreciated your help! 🩵
