This evening first responders from as far away as Vermillion, SD Fire EMS Department joined the Thank You Medical Professionals Tribute Tour as fire departments paraded by Avera McKennan, Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls VA Hospital, Avera Behavioral Health and the Heart Hospital.. The City of Sioux Falls Police Department, Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol lead the way this evening. Thank you to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue for organizing!

It is with deep sadness that the Minnehaha County Fire Chief’s Association mourn the passing of a life member to the Association. Windy was a true asset over the years and a great sounding board for many. There won’t be another one like him.

Last post from our banquet last night. 10 members from the Colton fire Dept came to the banquet the help us honor LeRoy Koopman on his retirement. It was made especially memorable as LeRoy could share his experience with his son Mike (to his right) who is the Chief of the Baltic Fire Dept and his son Monty (to his left) who is an Assistant Chief at Colton. It was a very special night. Thank you Chief Koopman for your years of dedication to the betterment of the fire service in Minnehaha County. We will never forget your leadership, guidance and most of all your friendship.

A series of photos as we honored LeRoy Koopman on his retirement as Chief from the Colton Fire Dept. LeRoy has been Chief for 40 years. He is a founding member of the Minnehaha County Fire Chiefs Association. First Chief Harold Boer from Lyons read a letter of congratulations from the head of the National Volunteer Fire Council. Next Minnehaha County Commissioner Jeff Barth read and presented a proclamation of thanks from the county commission. Lastly LeRoy addresses the crowd and shared some of his memories of getting the Association started in the early 70’s.
