The Minnehaha County Highway Department has pulled their snow plows off the roads due to blizzard conditions and extreme cold. Conditions are dangerous out and travel is not recommended until conditions improve. Please stay home and don’t travel until this blizzard has passed.

Another major winter storm is likely to impact our area starting later today. Snow amounts are uncertain at this time but several inches are possible. High winds will create possible ground blizzard conditions with poor visibility and hazardous driving conditions tomorrow into Saturday. In addition, dangerous wind chills, some as low as -30 to -40 degrees below 0, will blanket the area. Please take this winter storm warning seriously, prepare now, and if possible please stay home where it’s safe.

We are still on track to be impacted by a major winter storm this week. Snow has already started to fall in many areas this morning and travel maybe affected. Expect conditions to become worse throughout the day tomorrow. A blizzard warning has been issued starting at noon tomorrow and ending at noon on Thursday. Heavy snow, high winds, and dangerous windchills will make travel nearly impossible. Please make plans to stay home and only go out if absolutely necessary.

A major winter storm will impact our area starting tomorrow and ending sometime on Thursday. The first wave of this storm will start tomorrow and the second wave will start Wednesday and will end on Thursday. Some areas will receive a foot or more of snow along with heavy winds. Travel will difficult if not impossible on Wednesday through Thursday. Extremely cold temperatures and windchills will follow this storm on Thursday and will last into the weekend. Please prepare now for this storm and stay home if possible!

NO TRAVEL is advised in our area due to heavy snow, drifting, slippery roads, and poor visibility. Please stay home today!

Here’s a look at the current road conditions, with heavy snowfall, freezing rain, and sleet occurring across the region. Travel is not advised across numerous interstates, highways, and counties.

I 90 will be closing from Sioux Falls to Rapid City at 5:00 and I29 will be closing from Sioux Falls to the North Dakota boarder at 6:00. Again, conditions are extremely bad with white outs limiting visibility, slippery roadways, and dangerous windchills. A do not travel advisory is still in effect. Secondary roads are just as bad if not worse. Please stay home until conditions start to improve in a day or two.
