Today, Shanna Moke had the opportunity to present at the South Dakota Spring Judicial Conference on the topic of Judicial Interviewing of Children and developmental considerations within family court proceedings.

The presentation focused on current research, child development, emotional safety, and practical considerations surrounding children’s participation in family court matters. One of the central themes throughout the discussion was this:

Children often want voice without wanting responsibility.

Or said another way:
Voice does not mean choice.

Resolutions for Families is grateful for opportunities to contribute to these important conversations occurring within South Dakota and to continue collaborating with judges and professionals who care deeply about children and families navigating difficult transitions.

Shanna Moke is grateful to have been appointed to the South Dakota Supreme Court 2025 Commission in re-evaluating the SD Parenting Time Guidelines. Make note of all future public hearing dates to share your input!

The South Dakota Supreme Court’s Commission on Parenting Time Guidelines will hold three public hearings to gather input on potential changes to the standard parenting time guidelines. Read the latest press release for August 8, 2025.

Resources are available to support self-represented litigants without the financial means to hire an attorney. Mediation provides a platform for parties to negotiate agreements, which can be filed independently, avoiding courtroom proceedings and promoting the best interests of the children. Spread the word!
