We are excited to continue our series introducing the people behind the mission at Call to Freedom.

Today, we’re highlighting Madddie, one of our Youth Case Managers.

Madddie was drawn to this work because of her passion for helping vulnerable youth succeed.

“As a Youth Case Manager at Call to Freedom, I am able to walk alongside these youth and help build a strong support system that encourages their growth and success.”

For Madddie, some of the most meaningful moments come through trust and growth.

“There are many meaningful parts of my role. Building rapport with youth and watching them develop trust in a support system is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. I also love being part of the milestones and achievements that youth once believed they would never accomplish.”

She also wants more people to understand trafficking warning signs.

“I wish more people were aware of the warning signs and indicators of youth trafficking. Many people do not realize that any individual under the age of 18 involved in commercial sexual exploitation is a victim of human trafficking.”

And outside of work, you'll find Madddie cheering for her favorite football team.

“I am a die-hard Vikings fan. SKOL!”

Volunteer Spotlight: Phil

Phil didn’t wait for the “right time” to start making a difference.

“My wife and I own and operate two businesses, we have two young kids,” he said. “Life can be hectic and busy. Everyone seems to be busy, but life doesn’t stop to make time for volunteering or helping others.”

Phil volunteers with Call to Freedom’s moving team, picks up Panera Bread donations, and has helped with the CommUNITY Breakfast.

One experience continues to stay with him.

“We help deliver donations from the Furniture Mission and the thing that stands out is the joy on the faces when they get to have a couch of their own or a dresser to put clothes in,” he said. “One client was literally jumping up and down squealing with joy as we carried in furniture.”

For Phil, volunteering is about living out his faith through action.

“God has blessed me and my family and we’re called to be the hands and feet of Jesus.”

Thank you, Phil, for helping make difficult transitions a little easier and for showing up for survivors in so many ways.

As Call to Freedom prepares to celebrate 10 years of impact at our Igniting Change Gala on June 10, we’re reflecting on milestones that helped shape this mission.

In 2023, Call to Freedom was named a finalist for Organization of the Year by the Liberator Awards, which honors organizations across the country working to support those impacted by human trafficking.

We’re grateful for every supporter, volunteer, donor, and advocate who helped make this recognition possible.

As Call to Freedom celebrates 10 years of impact, one of the defining moments was the opening of the second Marissa’s House on April 1, 2022.

That expansion created additional safe housing and support for human trafficking survivors in South Dakota, thanks in large part to the leadership and generosity of Kristen and Chris Thorkelson, who helped champion the effort to raise nearly $2.8 million for the project.

We’re honored to recognize the Thorkelsons at the 10th Anniversary Igniting Change Gala on June 10 in Sioux Falls.

Call to Freedom’s Rapid City office is seeking Ambassador volunteers to help expand our reach across the West River area of South Dakota.

This role focuses on hanging pull tabs in communities throughout the area, helping connect more people to the resources and support we provide.

In observance of Memorial Day, Call to Freedom will be closed on Monday as we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans and active duty service members for your sacrifice, courage, and commitment. Thank you for your service.
