Visit the pop up exhibit featuring the life and work of Dakota artist Oscar Howe on display in the Interpretive Center through mid-July. Experience his legacy in work by local artist Bryan Akipa who studied under Howe at USD and in a collection of Howe-inspired pieces created by Alexis Monroe's art students at Sisseton Middle School. The pop up panels are a traveling display of the South Dakota Art Museum and the exhibit is sponsored by the Sisseton Arts Council. The Interpretive Center is open from 9 am - 5 pm daily.

The public is invited to a reception for artist Erin Genia who created the brightly colored Morningstar banner recently installed on the Nicollet Tower. The Meet the Artist gathering will be held Wednesday, May 31, from 5-6 p.m. at the Nicollet Tower and Interpretive Center.
Genia, an enrolled member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate, is a multidisciplinary artist, educator and community organizer specializing in Native American and Indigenous arts and culture. Her work flew on the International Space Station in 2020 and her public art commissions include the Seattle Center, the Minnesota Historical Society, the City of Saint Paul and the Rose Kennedy Greenway in Boston. It’s an honor to have her work displayed on the Nicollet Tower this summer.

Artist Jim Bird will be at the Tower today from 2:00-4:00 p.m. for a reception and will talk about his nature and wildlife photography at 3:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!

JUST A REMINDER ... An Open House with photographer Jim Bird of Peever is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with a Gallery Talk on nature photography at 3:00 p.m. A stunning series of Bird’s local landscape and wildlife photographs is on display through July at the Nicollet Tower Interpretive Center west of Sisseton. The exhibit and open house event are sponsored by the Sisseton Arts Council.
