Wildfire evacuations can move quickly in rural areas like Cloverdale, and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is sharing information about one warning sound residents should recognize: the Hi-Lo siren.

The Hi-Lo siren means Level 3: GO NOW.

If you hear it:
• Evacuate immediately
• Do not call 911 for evacuation information
• Call 911 only for a life-threatening emergency

Residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts at ORAlert.gov and follow official public safety sources for evacuation updates.

Thank you to the Cloverdale community for participating in the May election.

Based on preliminary results released last night, the Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District local option levy has passed.

We appreciate the time residents took to learn about district operations, ask questions, and take part in the public process.

This levy will help support staffing, emergency response, training, and wildfire risk reduction efforts in the district.

We are grateful for the community’s continued engagement and will continue working to provide clear information about district services, funding, and operations.

Fire district funding rates can be complicated, especially because some districts use a combination of permanent tax rates, local option levies, and bonds.

Here is a general comparison of current combined fire district rates in parts of Central Oregon based on publicly available tax rate information:

Cloverdale: approximately $2.22 per $1,000 assessed value
Bend Rural: approximately $2.20
Sisters-Camp Sherman: approximately $2.88
Redmond Fire & Rescue: approximately $2.50
Crooked River Ranch: approximately $3.47
Black Butte Ranch: approximately $3.47
La Pine Rural Fire: approximately $3.05

Several districts currently have funding measures before voters this election cycle.

Examples include:

Alfalfa Fire District is asking voters to consider an additional $1.75 levy.
Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District is asking voters to consider an additional $0.70 levy.
Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District is asking voters to consider a $1.23 replacement levy.

For Cloverdale, the proposed levy would replace the current $0.69 levy. At the same time, an existing bond rate is projected to decrease by approximately $0.08. Based on current rates, that would result in an estimated net increase of about $0.46 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Tax rates and ballot measures vary between districts because each district has different staffing models, service areas, equipment needs, and voter-approved funding structures.

This information is provided for general public education and comparison purposes.

Thank you to KTVZ for stopping by the Cloverdale Fire District today to speak with Chief Olson about the upcoming local option levy measure.

We appreciate the opportunity to provide factual information about district operations, staffing, emergency response demands, and the services provided throughout the Cloverdale community.

SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Voters in Central Oregon will soon decide on a proposed fire levy that leaders say is critical to maintaining emergency response--especially in the wake of last year's Flat Fire. The Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District is asking voters to approve a higher levy, but offi...

🔥 Fire Danger Level Increased to MODERATE – Effective Today (May 1)

Due to current weather conditions and fire danger indices, Central Oregon Fire Management Service (COFMS) and ODF Central Oregon District / Prineville Unit have increased the local fire danger level from Low to Moderate.

What this means:
* Fires can start more easily and spread faster than earlier this spring
* Be cautious with any activity that could create sparks (equipment, debris burning, campfires)
* Follow all current fire regulations and use extra care outdoors

Shortly after midnight this morning, Cloverdale Fire was dispatched to reports of a chicken coop on fire with flames spreading to nearby trees.

Crews arrived to find multiple outbuildings involved, along with several large trees burning. Thanks to a rapid response from Cloverdale and Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District crews, the fire was quickly contained to a small area and did not extend to the nearby home.

No injuries were reported.

This incident is a good reminder to regularly check heating elements in outbuildings such as coops, sheds, and shops. Ensure heaters are properly installed, clear of combustibles, and in good working condition—especially during overnight hours when issues may go unnoticed.

If you have questions about fire safety around your property, feel free to reach out.

Prescribed Fire Notice – April 28

The Sisters Ranger District plans a prescribed burn on up to 366 acres on Tuesday, April 28, beginning as early as 9:30 AM. The burn area is approximately 5 miles west of the Sisters Rodeo Grounds (along FS 1513, between Pole Creek and Three Creeks roads southwest of Sisters).

Smoke is expected to affect much of the Cloverdale Fire District south of Highway 20, with potential for overnight settling in low-lying areas.

What to expect / how to prepare:
* Close windows at night to reduce smoke exposure
* Use caution when driving in smoky areas; slow down and turn on headlights
* Individuals with heart/lung conditions or asthma should take precautions and consult their doctor

This work is part of ongoing fuels reduction efforts to reduce wildfire risk and restore more natural forest conditions.
