This afternoon, our Fire & Life Safety Division teamed up with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Emergency Management, and the American Red Cross to host a Wildfire Evacuation Preparedness Community Meeting in Camp Sherman.

Approximately 50 Camp Sherman residents joined us to learn more about defensible space, evacuation notifications, and how to prepare their homes and families before wildfire season arrives.

Preparedness starts long before smoke is in the air. Taking time now to create defensible space, build an emergency plan, and understand evacuation levels can make all the difference during a wildfire emergency.

A big thank you to our community partners and everyone who attended today’s meeting and took an active role in protecting our community.

🦃 STATION 703’S NEWEST “VOLUNTEER” 🦃

This turkey stopped by our Whychus Canyon station this afternoon to check in on wildfire preparedness… and honestly, he’s onto something.

Wildfire season is approaching. Is your home ready?

Creating defensible space doesn’t mean clearing all your trees — it means being smart about fuel! Start with the “Home Ignition Zone,” the first 5 feet around your home:
🍂 Clear leaves and pine needles from gutters
🪵 Move firewood away from siding and decks
🌲 Trim back vegetation and remove combustible materials near structures

The good news? You don’t have to wing it alone.

Our team offers FREE wildfire home assessments to help you prepare before fire season arrives.

Schedule yours online at:

(And no, the turkey is not currently certified to conduct assessments… but he was very interested in our defensible space efforts.)

🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

“Freedom is never free.”

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted each day.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, we ask our community to pause for a moment of reflection and gratitude for those who never made it home.

From our Fire District family to yours — we remember, we honor, and we are forever grateful.

From our Fire District family to yours… today, we are incredibly grateful. ❤️

Last night’s successful local option levy outcome is more than just an election result — it is a reflection of a community that believes in its firefighters, its volunteers, and the future of emergency services in Sisters and Camp Sherman.

To everyone who took the time to ask questions, attend meetings, share information, place signs, volunteer, and most importantly vote — thank you. Your support means the world to us.

We are honored to serve this community every day, and we do not take your trust lightly. Because of your support, we can continue working to provide the level of service, response, preparedness, and protection our community deserves.

Over the next week, large campaign signs placed throughout the community will be removed by our team. If you graciously hosted a yard sign, you may drop it off anytime at our main station located at 301 S. Elm Street in downtown Sisters.

Thank you for standing beside us. We are proud to serve you — today and into the future.

The Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District remains committed to serving our community with professionalism, transparency, and dedication — today and every day.

🔥 It’s a great day for training!

Your Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District firefighters are spending the day at the Central Oregon Wildfire School, sharpening critical skills and preparing for the upcoming wildfire season. From fire behavior and tactical operations to teamwork and safety, this hands-on training helps ensure our crews are ready when our community needs us most.

Wildfire preparedness starts long before the first smoke column appears — and today is another opportunity to train, learn, and strengthen regional partnerships across Central Oregon.

We’re proud of the dedication our firefighters continue to show in protecting our communities, forests, and neighbors. 🚒🌲🔥

Wildfire season is approaching — are you prepared? 🔥

May is Wildfire Preparedness Month, and our partners at the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Office of Emergency Management are encouraging residents to take steps now to prepare for wildfire season.

As part of this effort, a countywide test of Deschutes Alerts will take place on Wednesday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m.

More than 70,000 residents are already signed up for emergency notifications. This annual test helps ensure the system is working properly and provides a great opportunity to verify or update your contact information.

We encourage everyone in our community to:
✅ Sign up for or update emergency notifications at deschutesalerts.org
✅ Learn evacuation levels:
• Level 1 — Be Ready
• Level 2 — Be Set
• Level 3 — GO NOW!
✅ Build or refresh your 72-hour emergency kit
✅ Create defensible space around your home
✅ Check in with neighbors or loved ones who may need assistance during an emergency

Additional wildfire preparedness information, evacuation guidance, shelter resources, and safety checklists are available through the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management page

Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

Have you heard the Hi-Lo siren in our community?

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office recently shared an informational video explaining the purpose of the Hi-Lo evacuation siren and what it means during emergencies. The Hi-Lo siren may be used by law enforcement and emergency personnel to help notify residents of a Level 3 “GO NOW” evacuation during fast-moving incidents such as wildfires.

If you hear the Hi-Lo siren:
🚨 Leave the area immediately
🚨 Do not wait for additional notifications
🚨 Follow evacuation directions from emergency personnel

We encourage everyone in our community to take a few minutes to watch this important video and become familiar with the sound and meaning of the Hi-Lo siren before wildfire season arrives.

A prepared community is a safer community. Please help us spread the word by sharing this information with your family, friends, and neighbors.
