Crews from Wahkiakum County Fire Protection District No. 2 (a.k.a. Skamokawa Volunteer Fire Department) were mobilized yesterday to assist with the fires in Spokane.

They are currently working in what we call the “Wildland-Urban Interface” where they battle wildland fires that have moved into residential areas and have burned structures.

It appears that many homes have been lost and our hearts go out to those who are affected.

Work hard and stay safe gentlemen!

**Seeking “For” and “Against” Committee Members for Resolution No. 2026-01 – Fire Property Tax Levy Lid Lift**

Wahkiakum County Fire Protection District No. 2 is seeking volunteers to serve on the official "For" and "Against" Committees for the ballot measure approved by the Fire District Commissioners under Resolution No. 2026-01 that will appear on the November 3, 2026, ballot. This measure will appear on the upcoming ballot and asks voters to consider approving a property tax levy lid lift to support fire protection and emergency services. These committees will prepare statements for the Wahkiakum County Local Voters’ Pamphlet.

About the Measure (Resolution No. 2026-01)

The ballot title approved by the Fire District describes the measure as follows:
The Board of Wahkiakum County Fire District #2 adopted Resolution # 2026-01 proposing the renewal and restoration of the fire district's regular property tax levy, to fund fire protection and emergency services for a ten year period.

This proposition authorizes the District to restore its regular property tax levy to $1.00 per $1,000.00 of assessed valuation for collection in 2027 and authorizes a limit factor for each subsequent year at 100% plus the annual percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (as described in the Resolution) or the amount authorized by Washington State Law, whichever is greater. The final year's levy dollar amount would be used to compute limitations for subsequent levies as provided by Chapter 84.55 RCW.
