June is PTSD awareness month.

PTSD Awareness Day, observed on June 27, was established in 2010 by the U.S. Senate to honor Staff Sergeant Joe Biel. Biel, a member of the North Dakota National Guard, died by su***de in 2007 after facing post-traumatic stress disorder following his service in Iraq. His birthday was chosen as the date for this observance.

In 2014, the U.S. Senate expanded the recognition by officially designating the entire month of June as National PTSD Awareness Month. Since then, the observance has been recognized every year by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and many other organizations.

Thursday Night Training with Worcester Volunteer Fire Department

Worcester Volunteer Fire Department 83 and Worcester Township invited local firefighters to participate in a training exercise using an acquired structure. During the exercise, crews practiced truck company operations such as deploying ladders, performing victim searches, and managing a simulated Mayday scenario. Buildings like these offer valuable opportunities for firefighters to train in realistic residential settings with various house configurations.

Thank you Worcester!

Collegeville Fire

On Sunday evening, Skippack firefighters were dispatched as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) to a fire in a large abandoned structure in Collegeville. Due to the size of the building, personnel divided into two rescue teams, prepared to assist any firefighters in need. Once the fire was brought under control and RIT operations concluded, crews assisted with ventilating the building and ensuring there were no remaining hot spots. During this Collegeville fire, Skippack received another call for EMS assist, and a separate crew responded.

Thursday before Memorial Day is "Flags In" Day

This weekend we pause to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our nation’s armed forces.

At Arlington National Cemetery and across the country, row after row of white headstones are marked with small American flags — a solemn sea of red, white, and blue placed by the soldiers of The Old Guard during “Flags In.” Each headstone is visited, name read and flag placed..

Memorial Day is not just the unofficial start of summer. It is a day of remembrance for those who gave their lives so we could enjoy the freedoms we hold dear.
Let us remember them with gratitude, respect, and a commitment to never forget. 🇺🇸
