As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to recognize the importance of connection, compassion, and community. πŸ’š
A kind conversation, shared laughter, supportive care, and meaningful activities can make a lasting impact.

Thank you to our participants, caregivers, staff, and families for helping create a space where everyone feels valued, supported, and seen.

Let’s continue to prioritize mental health not only in May, but all year long. 🌿

Over the past several weeks, we’ve watched our community come together in truly heartwarming ways to support The Douglas Center Shoe Drive.

Businesses, schools, churches, libraries, villages, banks, park districts, townships, and community members have stepped forward to help make a meaningful impact in the lives of the adults we proudly serve each day.

This short video offers a glimpse into that journey β€” from community collection events and donation bins to our participants sorting and processing the shoes that help support our programs and services.

Every donated pair helps support adults with intellectual, developmental, physical, and mental disabilities while also helping keep usable shoes out of landfills and supporting underserved communities.

Thank you for continuing to stand with us. ❀️

Mental health matters for everyone β€” and adults with disabilities experience frequent mental distress at significantly higher rates. Early screening, open conversations, and accessible support services can make a meaningful difference.

Let’s continue building communities where mental health care is inclusive, compassionate, and accessible to all. πŸ’™

On May 5th, more than 200 β€œThey Deserve More” supporters marched, chanted and spoke with legislators at the Illinois State Capitol to call for higher wages for DSPs in the state budget! Proud to share that the blue shirts worn were made by our organization. Thank you for supporting our mission and the work we do in the community. πŸ‘•β€οΈ

At The Douglas Center, we offer screen printing, heat press and embroidery services for custom apparel. From bold graphic tees to clean stitched logos, we can help bring your design to life.

πŸ’š May is Mental Health Awareness Month πŸ’š

At our day program, we believe mental health matters every day. Healing, growth, connection, and support look different for everyone β€” and every step forward deserves to be celebrated.

This month, we’re honoring the strength of our participants, staff, families, and community by continuing to create a safe, supportive space where everyone is seen, heard, and valued.

Every conversation, every act of support, and every moment of understanding helps create a stronger, more compassionate community. Let’s continue to talk openly, listen without judgment, and heal together.

You are not alone.
You are important.
Your mental health matters. 🌱

If you or someone you know is struggling, reaching out is a sign of strength.
