🎓✨ Celebrating an Amazing Achievement! ✨🎓

We’re so proud to celebrate our participants from The Douglas Center who have successfully graduated from the Employment Units! 👏💙

The Employment Training Group meets multiple times per week to help develop skills for those seeking competitive employment. This group focuses on resume development, interview skills, job application processes, and more. We offer three specialized job training units: hospitality skills training, retail skills training, and office skills training. The goal is to empower participants to confidently apply for and secure employment independently.

A special thank you to Maria for facilitating the Employment Units and for supporting our participants throughout their journey. Your encouragement and guidance made this experience so meaningful! 🌟

Our participants and staff from the Douglas Center had a wonderful day enjoying a tram tour at the Chicago Botanic Garden! 🌿🚋✨ It was a beautiful opportunity to explore the gardens, take in the scenery, and enjoy time together. 💚

Helping hands, caring hearts. 💙

Participants from The Douglas Center spent the day volunteering at Swedish Hospital, where they helped load food from storage, transport and stock shelves for The Cupboard food pantry in the hospital lobby. They also replenished shelves in another area of the hospital to ensure employees have access to essential items.

We're proud of our participants for giving back through kindness, teamwork, and service. Every act of generosity makes a difference! 👏✨

On Sunday, we celebrated the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)—a landmark civil rights law that expanded access, opportunity, and protections for millions of Americans with disabilities.

The ADA reminds us that accessibility is not a privilege—it's a right. While we've made meaningful progress over the past 36 years, the work continues to ensure every person can fully participate in their communities, workplaces, schools, and public spaces.

This anniversary is an opportunity to recognize the advocates, leaders, and individuals whose voices have shaped a more inclusive future—and to recommit ourselves to breaking down barriers wherever they exist.

Together, we can help create a world where everyone belongs.

July is Disability Pride Month—a time to celebrate the strength, talents, achievements, and unique experiences of people with disabilities while recognizing the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and belonging.

At our day program, we are proud to support individuals as they build friendships, explore new interests, develop skills, and participate in meaningful activities that reflect their goals and passions. Every day, we see creativity, resilience, kindness, and determination shine through our participants, reminding us that every person has valuable gifts to share.

Disability Pride Month is also an opportunity to recognize the disability rights movement and to continue advocating for communities where everyone is respected, included, and empowered to thrive. We celebrate the diversity that makes our community stronger and remain committed to creating spaces where every individual feels seen, heard, and valued.
This month, we honor the voices, accomplishments, and contributions of people with disabilities—not just in July, but every day of the year.

Our Day Program participants are gaining hands-on experience in hospitality and personal care, building practical skills that can be used at work, at home, and throughout their daily lives. Bring Your Gently Worn Shoes and Help Make a Lasting Difference

The Douglas Center is excited to participate in the Lincolnwood SWANCC Recycling Event on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as our Community Shoe Drive continues to bring people together in support of adults with disabilities.

If you live in a SWANCC (Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County) member community, this is a wonderful opportunity to recycle your gently worn, used, or new shoes while helping create a meaningful impact both locally and globally.
