This week, the Skokie Fire Department crews are conducting hose testing to ensure all in-service fire hoses are operating properly and remain free of damage that could affect their performance during an emergency.

As part of our operational readiness, all fire hoses are inspected and pressure tested on an annual basis.

Regular testing and inspection helps ensure our equipment is ready to perform when our community needs it most.

This week is CPR and AED Awareness Week, a reminder that knowing how to respond in an emergency can save a life. When cardiac arrest occurs, immediate CPR and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can significantly improve a person's chance of survival.

The Skokie Fire Department encourages everyone to take the time to learn CPR and become familiar with AEDs. You never know when your actions could make a life-saving difference.

The Skokie Fire Department is proud to announce the addition of a fourth ambulance to our fleet. Since 2003, the department has operated three ambulances. Due to the increasing demand for emergency medical services (EMS), an additional ambulance is needed to help meet the growing workload.

Beginning today, a fourth ambulance will be placed into service three days per week during designated "power hours" (8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.). The Skokie Fire Department analyzed five years of historical call data to identify periods of highest demand for service. This analysis allowed us to establish these power hours, ensuring that resources are deployed in the most efficient and responsible manner possible.

The addition of a fourth ambulance strengthens the department’s operational capabilities, improves response effectiveness, and enhances the level of service we provide to the residents of Skokie.

We would like to thank the Village Board and the community for their continued support.

It’s hydrant flushing season in Skokie. Crews will be flushing south of Touhy this week. You may notice some temporary water discoloration in this area. Just run your cold tap for a few minutes, and it’ll clear up. Regular flushing helps maintain water quality and system performance. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

This Saturday, there are two great opportunities to support organizations that are very important to the Skokie firefighters.

Beginning at 9 a.m., Skokie firefighters will be out on Skokie Boulevard collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of the annual “Fill the Boot” campaign. Stop by and help support a great cause that benefits individuals and families affected by muscular dystrophy.

You can also support Skokie Fire Explorer Post 489 beginning at 9 a.m. at Fannie May (10066 N. Skokie Blvd). Explorers will be handing out flyers to customers, and when the flyer is turned in with your purchase, 30% of the net sale will be donated to the Explorers to help fund their trip to Champaign for the Illinois Fire Institute training program.

We appreciate the continued support from our community and hope to see you out this Saturday!
