🏗️ Update for Builders/Designers in Skowhegan! 🏗️

The State of Maine has adopted the 2021 I-codes, replacing the 2015 edition of the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code. This change is effective April 7th, 2025. Here are some key changes that will give builders and designers more flexibility and options:

🔹 Expanded Design Choices: The new codes introduce alternative building materials and methods, allowing for innovative construction techniques.

🔹 Enhanced Energy Efficiency Options: Builders can choose from a wider range of energy-saving technologies and practices, promoting sustainability while potentially lowering costs for homeowners.

🔹 Increased Compliance Flexibility: The updated code offers different pathways for compliance, making it easier for builders to meet standards while incorporating client preferences.

These changes aim to foster creativity and practicality in construction, making it easier than ever to build safe, efficient structures in our community!

Sharing as we are heading into the "construction season". Please be sure that you contact the Code Enforcement Office to ensure your projects are compliant. This is an example of what can happen when projects do not meet the minimum standards. Let's work together to make sure this does not happen in our community.

Auburn businessman Donald Buteau and two contractors admit to outstanding violations and agree to pay town of Raymond $650,000 in addition to restoration costs.

Good morning,
Historically, the Town has not required a building permit for the replacement of windows/doors (as long as it is the same size), replacement of roofing materials and siding. Due to the increase in requirements for energy efficiency, we will be requiring a Building Permit for those activities. For now, we will not charge a fee for this permit. It will be used as a notification of construction. Feel free to give us a call should you have any questions or concerns.

Good morning,
Just a reminder that tomorrow, January 31st, is the last day you can report damages from the December storm/flooding. Please make sure that you report your damages as this will impact decisions for a disaster declaration from the federal government. A declaration will open up more funding to help those in need. If you or someone you know needs assistance, please contact the Code Enforcement Office at 207-474-6904. We will provide computers, if needed, and assist you with the process of submitting all of the documentation needed. The Town has also received $15,000 from Somerset County and those funds are dedicated to those impacted by the December flood. You can contact the Economic Development Office for more information regarding those funds. 207-474-6905.

Good afternoon,
We wanted to share some resources for folks that were impacted by last weeks events. Below are links to valuable information to assist those affected. Please also be aware that any damage needing repair will require an evaluation, permits and inspections prior to occupancy of substantially damaged structures. By our estimation, 14 homes were impacted by the flooding. Please contact the Code Enforcement office with any questions relating to the process. Please feel free to contact us with questions about these resources, or to see if there are other resources available.

Good afternoon!
We now have a dedicated link to all flood related items. More specifically, the Community Rating System (CRS) program that the Town is enrolled in. This new link allows the CRS Coordinator to obtain more points which may lead to a higher program classification. We are currently a Class 8 and we are only a few hundred points away from a Class 7. This means that there is a potential for an additional 5% premium discount on flood insurance for our residence. A Class 7 will earn the residents a 15% premium reduction for structures in the Special Flood Hazard Area (Zones a and ae) and a 5% premium reduction for structures outside of the Special Flood Hazard Area (zone x). Below is the new link. We are actively adding to the website to ensure our residents are getting the information they need. Keep an eye out for updates as we continue our work within the program.
