Happy Monday Somerset County, make a safety to-do for this week and check your smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and propane detectors!

The St Albans Fire Department reminds all residents that working smoke detectors, propane gas detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors are essential for home safety.

• Install smoke detectors on every level of your home and in all sleeping areas.
• Install carbon monoxide detectors outside all sleeping areas and on each level.
• Install propane gas detectors if your home uses propane.
• Test all detectors monthly and replace batteries as needed.
• Replace smoke detectors every 10 years and CO detectors as recommended by the manufacturer.

These devices provide early warning and save lives. Make sure your home is protected. If an alarm ever sounds and you’re unsure why, evacuate and call 911.

If you are in need of assistance obtaining or installing smoke or co detectors reach out to the St Albans Town Office to see how we can help.

⚠Cold temps and winter-like conditions at high elevations this weekend⚠

If you are heading out to the mountains this weekend, know your risks and be prepared.

Memorial Day has come and gone, but that doesn't mean that summer is here just yet. A late season storm is expected to bring cold temperatures and some accumulating snow to the mountains, especially across New Hampshire, Friday into Saturday. Above 4000 feet will be mostly snow, with a mix possible down as low as 2500 feet. Below that a cold rain is likely. If you plan on visiting the mountains, make sure you are prepared for winter-like conditions.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth at the Skowhegan farmers market! We had a great time talking with community members about individual preparedness, emergency planning, and simple ways to be more ready for unexpected situations.

Preparedness starts at home, and even small steps can make a big difference during emergencies, severe weather, or power outages!

Know your risks and be prepared!

We are excited to continue these conversations at the next farmers market we attend on September 26th.
