With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our brother, Gary Halverson — known to many of us as “Gov,” “Gary,” and “Norton.”

Gary was a veteran and a dedicated member of our Slater Fire Department for 30 years, and his impact can’t be measured in calls run or years worn — it’s in the lives he touched, the lessons he passed on, and the steady presence he brought to the station.

Whether you knew him as Gov, Gary, or Norton, you knew what he stood for — loyalty, service, and taking care of your people.

Today, we honor his dedication, his friendship, and the legacy he leaves behind in this department. Please keep Gary’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers, and keep his brothers in the fire service close as we remember a life of service.

Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here. 🖤🚒

Our blood drive next week has a twist to it. We will have the Iowa Donor Network there to provide information about organ and tissue donations. Stop by and drop a pint of blood and learn how your can change someone's life for the rest of theirs.

This past Sunday, our volunteer team dedicated time to improving our skills through forcible entry, search, and VES (Vent, Enter, Search) training. 💪🔥

A huge thank you to Ankeny Fire Department for graciously allowing us to use their training house for this exercise. Having access to such a realistic training environment helps us be better prepared to serve our community.

We’re proud to be a team of volunteers committed to continual learning, even on our days off. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Thanks to the Slater Public Library for putting together this fun water day. Even though the weather was a little chilly, lots of kids still came out to enjoy the fun!
