Today we had some hands-on, live-fire experience during a controlled structure burn, in Huxley along with the Huxley Fire and Rescue and Cambridge Fire and Rescue.

These rare opportunities are invaluable for our newest recruits and veteran members alike, letting crews observe real fire behavior.

This morning some of our crew suited up and "smoked out" a training structure using simulated theatrical smoke to replicate a heavy residential fire.

What our team practiced:

Search and Rescue: Navigating by touch and sound alone to find victims quickly.
Thermal Imaging: Utilizing high-tech cameras to spot hidden fire walls and locate trapped occupants.
