As we share information about the levy question on the August 4 ballot, we want to start with the basics: who we are and what we do. The Slater Ambulance District serves about 5,000 residents across 65 square miles. Last year, our crews responded to 514 calls. We cover everything from falls and car accidents to heart attacks and hospital transfers. We staff an ambulance 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with an average response time of about 4 minutes. In the posts ahead, we will walk through what it costs to provide this service, how the district is funded today, and what the proposed levy would mean for property owners.

🚑 SLATER AMBULANCE DISTRICT COMMUNITY INFORMATION 🚑

The Slater Ambulance District Board of Directors has approved placing a tax levy question on the August 2026 ballot.

The proposal asks voters to consider increasing the district's tax levy from $0.46 to $0.75 per $100 of assessed valuation, an increase of $0.29 per $100 assessed valuation.

If approved, the funding would be used to support ambulance operations, staffing, equipment, ambulance replacement, maintenance, training, and other emergency medical service needs within the district.

Like many ambulance services across Missouri, the Slater Ambulance District has experienced increasing costs associated with personnel, medical supplies, fuel, vehicle maintenance, and emergency medical equipment. The district continues to provide 24-hour emergency medical response to residents and visitors within the service area.

The August ballot question will allow voters to determine whether additional local funding should be provided to support the continued operation of emergency medical services in the district.

Additional information, including examples of the impact on property taxes and details regarding district operations, will be provided in the coming weeks.

Over the coming weeks, the Slater Ambulance District will be sharing information regarding a proposed ambulance tax levy increase that will appear on the upcoming ballot.

We understand that any discussion involving taxes is important to our residents, and we believe voters deserve clear, factual information about why this issue is being presented and what it means for the future of emergency medical services in our community.

The Slater Ambulance District has proudly served our residents for many years, providing emergency medical care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Like EMS agencies across Missouri and the nation, we continue to face rising costs for personnel, equipment, medical supplies, fuel, training, insurance, and ambulance operations.

Our goal is to provide transparency and answer questions so community members can make an informed decision when they cast their vote. In the coming days, we will share information about the district's current funding, operational costs, service demands, and what the proposed levy increase would mean for the future of ambulance services in our area.

We encourage residents to follow our page, ask questions, and engage in respectful conversation as we work together to ensure reliable emergency medical care remains available for our community.

Thank you for your continued support of the Slater Ambulance District and the dedicated EMTs and paramedics who serve our citizens every day.
