Letter from: Mark Johnson - Event Coordinator - KILTED 5K
Regarding: CLOSURE OF ELGIN/DUNCAN AVENUE – MARCH 9, 2024
Dear Resident,
First and foremost, I want to thank you for your past and continued support!
On Saturday, March 9th, the Dublindee Parade committee will be holding our Annual Kilted 5K Run/Walk. The run will start promptly at 8:00 AM starting outside Lifeline Plumbing in East Dundee. The race route will be south on Duncan/Elgin Avenue, turnaround and return north on Duncan/Elgin Avenue.
For safety purposes, we will be closing Duncan Avenue while the race is taking place. Duncan Avenue will be closed to the public starting at 7:00AM and reopen around 10:00AM. During the race, it is critical that we have no traffic along the race route while there are runners and walkers. To minimize the impact to our residents, we allow you to exit south along Duncan going South until 7:45AM. We will close the entrance to Duncan at 7:45 while the race is taking place. After runners have past, we will allow exiting to the south until road is open to the general public.
We are sending this letter in advance so that you may plan according. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that this might cause. We just want to ensure the safety for all of our participants. We will have the police and fire department there in case of an emergency. We encourage residents to cheer our runners on!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Kilted 5K committee.

We will miss you my friend! Deputy Ruchaj was a great guy and always went above and beyond.

Kane County Deputy Sheriff Chris Ruchaj (1973-2024)

Media Release

It is with great sadness that Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain and Undersheriff Amy Johnson share the news of the death of one of their own.
Deputy Christopher Ruchaj, age 50, passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on February 14, 2024, at his home. He had been a part of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) family since 1997.

“There are no words to express our gratitude and appreciation for his many years of service and dedication to both the KCSO and the community he served,” said Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain. “Deputy Ruchaj was an extraordinary friend, co-worker and brother.”

During his tenure, Deputy Ruchaj served on the patrol and warrant divisions and was currently working as the Community Resource Officer at Kaneland High School in Maple Park. Counselors have been made available to students and staff at the school as they process the loss of Deputy Ruchaj. Assistance is also being offered to his colleagues with the KCSO.

Deputy Ruchaj was known for his passion for helping guide kids towards a positive path in life. He recently participated in a roundtable discussion concerning online safety, emphasizing the importance of parents engaging in conversations with their teenagers about the enduring nature of social media content.

When not in uniform, Deputy Ruchaj was a cherished father of three and friend to all who knew him. He also previously served the Sugar Grove community as a Fire District Trustee.

Deputy Ruchaj was, and will remain, highly regarded by those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

Congratulations Bill!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Dundee Avenue resurfacing begins March 13
CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that a resurfacing of
Dundee Avenue (Illinois 25), from south of Higgins Road (Illinois 72), in East Dundee, to
Interstate 90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway), in Elgin, will require intermittent daytime lane
closures beginning, weather permitting, Monday, March 13.
The $1million project, which consists of resurfacing the 1.7-mile stretch of Illinois 25 and
replacing deteriorated curbs, is expected to be completed in summer 2023.
Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout
construction.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are
urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits
and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 2,500 miles of highway and
nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which
is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Three
of Rebuild Illinois included approximately $8.6 billion of improvements statewide on 4,422
miles of highway, 412 bridges, and 621 additional safety improvements.
