Rusty served as Chief of Training for the Slidell Fire Department, where he showed unwavering dedication to public safety and touched the lives of so many. Even after moving to Walker, Michigan to serve as Fire Chief, he stayed connected—always following our department and keeping up with his Louisiana fire family.

Chief Mike Thiel, Operator Travis Collignon and Firefighter Ethan Swann just completed 9 days of preparation and 13 straight days of rigorous SCUBA diver training and successfully passed all knowledge and practical skills during the last three days of the PADI Instructor Examination to become PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors! The trio were previously PADI Divemasters and will continue certifying our FD1 personnel in Open Water and other diving courses to ensure our agency continues to be prepared to effect rescues using our Zeagle Rapid Diver and other Scuba equipment during water rescues.

📞Today, marks the beginning of 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤. We celebrate our incredible Communications Officers — the calm voices behind every emergency! As the first point of contact, they handle high-stress calls with professionalism and speed, coordinating firefighters to the scene while serving as their lifeline on the ground. St. Tammany Fire District #1 Communications Division “Fire Alarm” dispatches for all fire districts in St. Tammany Parish, and they do it exceptionally well. We also want to recognize the men and women of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office and Slidell Police Department communications divisions. 911 Dispatchers help save lives one call at a time!
