CA-4 on The Ballot
DOES NOT automatically eliminate Inventory tax on Business. It simply allows The Parish to decide how it’s done; reduce, eliminate, leave the same.
La. Is one of the few states who charge inventory tax. La competes at a disadvantage with other states for attracting new business because of this.

If OTHER PARISHES vote YES, & ST TAMMANY votes NO, ST TAMMANY is now at a disadvantage with these Parishes now, along with other states to attract new businesses.

The CONSUMER actually pays for this tax.
A BUSINESS factors this in to the cost of goods you purchase. THE COST of DOING BUSINESS.

A YES vote may result in a small reduction in the price CONSUMERs pay, MORE inventory on the shelves, new jobs, new businesses.

Now, this Inventory Tax money all goes to the same dedicated MILLs as your property tax. We recently saw these departments ROLL back MILLs and still receive enough to put in savings doing so. THE FUNDED ones. Can they absorb the loss of revenue?

If passed, THEN THE PARISH at council meetings will have Public Comment & OPEN meetings. Also actual numbers for losses & gains will be presented, and a decision will be made.

I think a YES vote is a step in the right direction for St Tammany Parish

DRAINAGE FOLLOW UP-
Yesterday I contacted City of Slidell Public Works for an update to the storm drains work orders I placed.
A lot of them were handled, some still a work in progress. It was a big list. Impressed that they started 2 days after I submitted the list. 1 location was cleaned but follow up will be required. Stay Tuned!!

This is the W14 canal behind SMH.
A major drainage outfall for the area.
While it is very high, it is flowing. It only has a certain flow rate capacity. I don’t know the rain fall totals for today yet, but residents along the canal have worried since the early 80s.
My Aunt lived along this canal & was always worried, and eventually moved blocks away because of being worried.
In the early days of Slidell’s expansion, homes were allowed to be built right on these canals with little servitude. Newer subdivisions have greater servitudes to allow for expansion.
Decisions in the past didn’t take into account the future. Today’s administrations are left with finding solutions. Now more costly to correct

Took a ride through Lakewood & tried to get to Bon Village. Don’t know the rain total yet, but it was significant.
Some of the storm drains I’ve previously reported to Public Works did a good job.
I reported a good number of them & don’t know if they got to all of them yet. I will follow up Monday to see & go from there.
To report clogged storm drains, call Public Works on Monday

You call, they put it on the schedule 👍

This is a properly flowing storm drain IF the outfall canals are not backed up.

SLIDELL - People first came here for OPPORTUNITY. The location was/ is IDEAL.
They stayed and settled a great safe community.
MODERN times people come for the Community not so much for Opportunity.
We’ve grown & become Residential, Small Businesses, & Retail. The biggest employer is the Medical Industry.
As we’ve grown, the residents bear the majority of the costs to keep our great community going. The Medical Industry must now expand into the neighborhoods for growth as well.
We still have THE LOCATION, & a Great safe community, but we need to once again focus on OPPORTUNITY.
Wouldn’t it be nice if commuters could work local for the same income? Wouldn’t it be nice if surrounding areas started commuting to Slidell ?
On the Ballot, Allowing local Gov. to decide how to charge for Inventory Tax instead of The State. Also last year, Slidell has been included into The Port of New Orleans Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ2)
TWO additional means to attract OPPORTUNITY to add to our location, & great safe community.
MORE of the right OPPORTUNITY in the right Locations is the first piece of the puzzle to provide everything we say we are looking for

NEIGHBORHOODs-
When I moved in, I was the young whipper snapper; as one of them called me. They kept an eye on the neighborhood, I kept an eye on them. Extended family. All but one I helped, as he never needed it. BUT the one time my help was needed, I was there..
Sadly, I watched them all pass, except one. Now relocated.
The neighborhood dynamic changed. Two homes turned to rentals. One always trouble. The PD was frequently visiting this location. I considered moving.
My neighborhood as come full circle now. Younger group, but great neighbors once again. Teenager with her first car, kids playing in the street. A wonderful sight.
This weekend I spent with neighbors in my own neighborhood. I realized, I’m no longer the young whippersnapper.

DRAINAGE TEST MORNING! 👍
Drove The Lakewood & Bon Village subdivisions to locate what storm drains need tending to. I found about 10. Work orders will be called in tomorrow to Public Works.
In 18 years I know when my backyard drainage backs up to my patio the past 5 years means my street would be flooded.
It wasn’t today. 👍 A few weeks ago I contacted PUBLIC WORKs for the two drains on my street as well as another resident I learned of knocking the doors. A crew was out next day or day after.
Checked on that location as well 👍
While I’m out let’s check ALL of Lakewood. Let’s run over to Bon Village as well.
Bon Village I came across a storm drain that needs to be looked at for repair.
Storm drain isn’t draining properly
CALL 985-646-4258
Public Works will be happy to come check it out. They don’t know if you don’t report it 👍
Appologies for not checking the rest of the subdivisions in District E. In 18 years, I’ve learned don’t try to head East on Gause after a down pour. By the time I made it, the water was gone.

A FLASHBACK MOMENT-
I remember when this company first emerged & built the first 4 boats. I had the privilege of being on the Sea trials of 2 of them. I’ve watched this company grow over the years into the powerhouse they are today. I’ve been involved with many projects on their vessels. I have many friends, peers who have worked for this company, some that still do.
I enjoy seeing companies I know have great success. Especially those head quartered right here in St. Tammany Parish.
