The CDBG funds are what we are able to use on projects like this. It’s unfortunate that the federal administration has again placed it on the cutting block once again.
I would love to see the program expanded and coordinated with our County Municipal Infrastructure Bank.
The fact that many municipalities won’t raise necessary taxes to cover their infrastructure, this is federal funds to keep residents safe.
So be cautious of any elected official bastardizing tax collection, says they will never agree to an increase or will run on getting rid of taxes.
They are simply unable to explain to their constituents the necessity of cobbling local funds to ensure safety, quality of life, economic stability, and to address shared needs.
These funds are for services and functions of government that individuals and private markets generally cannot provide efficiently or equitably on their own.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t strive to keep taxes low or be savvy with the every dollar.
But there is nothing getting cheaper in this economy.
