Please keep Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Wilson’s family in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time as Holmes County lost a great deputy.

We are heartbroken to share the loss of one of our own, Lt. Brett F. Wilson, Jr.

Brett began his law enforcement career at the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office in September 2010, about three weeks shy of his 20th birthday. Over the course of the last 15 years, we’ve had the immense honor of sharing life with him. We got to watch him marry the love of his life, Charley, become an amazing dad to three incredible children, work alongside his own dad, and dedicate his life to serving his family and his community.

During his career, Brett served as a transport officer, patrol deputy, patrol squad supervisor, narcotics investigator, and criminal investigator. Above all those in our hearts, however, Brett was our friend. A beloved member of our family. He loved a good prank, and could take a joke as well as he could make one. He spent Monday mornings talking sports from the weekend, and always made sure there was a properly made pot of coffee hot and ready.

If you look through Lt. Wilson’s personnel file, you’ll find countless training certificates, commendations and letters of appreciation, and documentation of promotions. He was an intelligent, intuitive law enforcement officer who made an impact on thousands of lives through his work. Likewise, if you look through Brett’s life, you’ll see it filled with the same level of commitment – to his family, his friends, his faith, his community. He lived a life of service rooted in a deep love for others, and Holmes County is better in so many ways because of his contributions.

We may eventually have to reassign his cases, his truck, and his office, but Brett will never be replaced. We will continue to love his family as part of ours, to fill in the gaps for his kids, and to carry him with us always.

We love you dearly, Holmes 6.

Dispatched notified responding units that there was a missing 3 year old. Slocomb Engine 4 and Rescue 7 arrived on scene to find a working fire. Thoughts and Prayers for Sheriff Tate and Deputy Tate’s family.

Our hearts are broken today as we join our beloved sheriff in mourning the loss of a devoted, respected, long-serving member of our family, Retired Sergeant David Tate.

Spanning more than 37 years, Ret. Sgt. Tate's career with the Holmes County Sheriff's Office was marked by a dedication to service and an unwavering love for his community. His personnel file is filled to the brim with hundreds of training certificates and nearly as many letters of appreciation and commendation - a testament to his commitment to the pursuit of excellence and his true servant's heart.

A loving husband, partner, father, grandfather, deputy, and so much more, Ret. Sgt. Tate leaves behind a family by blood, and another bonded by the badge. His legacy of service is carried on by his son, Sheriff Tate, and grandson, Washington County Deputy Aydan Tate, and the men and women of the Holmes County Sheriff's Office as we carry his memory in our hearts.

Please remember Sheriff Tate and his family in your prayers over the coming days.

Thank you, Retired Sergeant Tate, for your friendship, guidance, and service. We'll hold you with us always.
