Smackover’s offense provided plenty of fireworks in 2025.
If Friday night is any indication, the Bucks will be keeping scoreboard operators busy in 2026.
Trason Parlor ran for two scores and threw for two more to lead Smackover past McGehee 38-6 in the season opener for both schools.
The win is the first for the Bucks in the series since 2015 and snaps a four-game losing streak to the Owls.
Friday’s game was also the first for Smackover on their new turf field, and the Bucks wasted little time in taking advantage of a miscue to take the lead.
Smackover recovered the opening kickoff and drove 22 yards for their first points on the new turf.
Parlor opened the scoring on a tough 6-yard run up the middle at the 9:36 mark of the opening period.
The Bucks turned the ball over on downs in the red zone on their next possession, but a second turnover by the Owls on special teams allowed Smackover to pad their lead.
Forced to punt, Madison McElroy recovered a fumble on the snap and returned it 3 yards for a touchdown to make it 12-0.
The Bucks extended their lead just under two minutes later thanks to another big play.
After forcing the Owls to punt, the Bucks needed just one play to extend their lead after Kieundre Billingly found a crease over the left side and accelerated 72 yards to paydirt to give Smackover an 18-0 lead.
The Bucks led by the same score at the end of the first quarter, but extended their lead on their first offensive play of the second quarter.
Parlor rolled to his left and fired a 52-yard strike to Derwin Goodwin to make it 24-0 just 12 seconds into the second stanza.
Smackover’s longest drive of the game spanned 80 yards with Parlor continuing to put his elusiveness on display.
On the first play of the drive, Parlor dropped the snap, but quickly picked the ball up and broke several tackles for 8 yards.
Parlor then connected again with Goodwin for 22 yards down the right sideline before McElroy picked up 22 more yards with a run over the right side.
Parlor capped the drive by lofting a pass just as he was hit that Braxton Bryant hauled in the back of the end zone for a 17-yard strike with Parlor’s run on the 2-point conversion extending the lead to 32-0.
Parlor then put on a final dazzling display in the third quarter to cap his big night.
After taking the snap, Parlor rolled to his left, but quickly ran into a McGehee defender. The junior then went back to his right and eluded a second McGehee defender before making his way down the sideline for a 32-yard touchdown run to give the Bucks a 38-0 edge with 5:56 to play in the third period.
The Owls spoiled the shutout bid with a touchdown late in the game to make the final margin.
Smackover (1-0) will host Union County rival Junction City next Saturday.

The Buckaroos took the lead on the courts today playing 8-game pro sets against the Wildcats. Our Lady Bucks won all 5 matches and our Bucks won 3, only dropping one. The season is off to a good start. We will start conference play on the road next week against Parkers Chapel on Tuesday, 9/1 and McGehee on Thursday, 9/3. Thank you to the El Dorado Wildcats for hosting a fantastic match. The courts looked great and the canopies for spectators were appreciated.

Smackover takes win over Westside!!!

NORPHLET — Smackover improved to 2-0 on the volleyball season with a 3-1 win over West Side Christian on Tuesday. The Lady Bucks won 26-24, 25-19, 18-25, 25-13.

Lunden Clark had 23 assists to go with five digs and two kills. Saylor Greer led the team with nine kills, nine aces and three digs. Cameron Morris had eight aces, six digs and five kills. Abigail Burdue had seven aces, five kills and two digs. Emily Langley contributed eight digs, five kills and three aces. Lydia Tipton had six kills with an ace and a dig.

The Lady Bucks won the junior high match 25-21, 25-21.
“I was really proud of how both teams competed tonight,” said Smackover coach Nicki Shelton. “Junior High stayed consistent and did a good job taking care of business in two sets. Senior High showed a lot of fight. We had two real
ly close sets, dropped the third, and I loved the way the girls responded in the fourth instead of letting the momentum get away from us.
“We had several players contribute in different areas, which is exactly what we need. We still have things to clean up, but this was a good team win and a great way to keep building.”
The Lady Bucks will play Genoa Central in the Hooks Invitational Thursday at 9 a.m.

Prep Golf: Lady Bucks finish 3rd in Salt Cup Invitational

Smackover’s girls showed they could run with the big dogs Tuesday, finishing third in the Salt Cup Invitational. The Lady Bucks shot 278 in the second round at Hurricane Country Club and finished with a 543 over 36 holes.

Little Rock Christian won the girls’ title with 503 followed by Cabot’s 516.

Smackover was the only 3A school in the field. All of the other girls’ teams were 5A or 6A.

Smackover’s boys finished 11th.

“I’m very proud of both teams today,” said Smackover coach Hutch Preston. “For the girls, finishing third overall after playing 36 holes in two days is a huge step for us and something we can build on. Kannyn played hard and competed well against tough competition. She had a couple of hiccups but finished strong. All of our girls were tremendous this week. We have a lot going for us and just need to keep pushing.

“On the boys’ side, we normally count three scores but this format counted four. I’m proud of how they responded. Coming in 16 strokes better on day two was a big improvement and exactly what I was looking for. Overall it was a really good two days for the Bucks and Lady Bucks. We got a lot accomplished and I couldn’t be prouder.”

Kannyn Preston shot 82 and was medalist runner-up with a 164 over 36 holes. Cabot’s Berklee Turner was medalist with 153.

Kat Wolfe shot 97 on Tuesday with Jewel Arnold at 99 and Emerson Neal at 101 for the Lady Bucks.

Little Rock Central (568), Conway (569), Benton (571), Bryant (577), Mount St. Mary’s (600), Sheridan (649) and Lakeside (667) rounded out the girls’ scores.

Little Rock Catholic shot 579 to win the boys followed by Harrison (589), Little Rock Christian (592), Benton (596), Bryant (607), Benton B (610), Alma (613), Magnolia (620), Conway (627), Lakeside (652), Smackover (662), White Hall (676), North LIttle Rock (686), Sheridan (688) and Little Rock Central (691).

Magnolia’s Knox Stephens shot a two-day 136, going 8-under par to win medalist.

Dax Preston shot 76 to lead the Bucks followed by Isaiah Martin (78), Jesse Saulsbury (78), Will Walker (91) and Mason Parker (103).
