Our Fire Chief, his Officers and all of their membership family ask that you join them in keeping the entire State of Texas in continued thoughts and prayers .

All of the lives have been lost due to the devastating flash floods in central Texas. Among them are at least 28 children. In Kerr County alone, 10 girls and one counselor from Camp Mystic are still unaccounted for. In Burnet county Marble Falls Volunteer Fire Chief is missing to name just a few devastating examples.

The flood threat isn’t over—more rain is on the way. Officials are urging residents in parts of Texas to move to higher ground as the danger continues.

Our hearts are heavy, and together as a department family lift our voices to the only one who can bring peace in chaos.

God Bless Texas….

As Memorial Day is here and the weekend festivities is coming to a conclusion please consider remembering this.

Memorial Day, although a federal holiday held the last Monday in May, is the nation's foremost annual day to mourn, remember and honor its service men and women who died while in service to our country.

Originally called Decoration Day, it was formalized by a "Memorial Day Order" issued by Grand Army of the Republic Commander-in-Chief John A. Logan in 1868.

Most would agree that the traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years.

Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day.

At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored and neglected.

Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades.

Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in their dedicated service to our country.

On Memorial Day the flag is displayed at half staff until noon and at full staff from noon to sunset.

Please consider, always remember, and never forget those that have given and paid the ultimate sacrifice ! We always will say Thank you to ALL who serve or have served! We continue to remain grateful for and honor the sacrifice made. There are certainly plenty of great events for Memorial Day but even if you cannot attend one please consider taking a moment of silence in remembrance of these selfless true heroes.

On behalf of our Fire Chief, His Officers and Their Proud membership please remain safe this and every day!

It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Major Leslie Roger Leatherman of the Laurel County Fire Department. He was fatally injured during his response to the devastating tornado in Laurel County overnight.

Major Leatherman was a dedicated public servant for 39 years, answering the call to protect and help others in their most critical time of need. His courage, commitment, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Please keep Major Leatherman’s family, friends, and fellow responders in your thoughts and prayers. As we continue search and recovery efforts in the affected areas, we ask that everyone stays clear to allow our teams to do their work safely and effectively.

This is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers our first responders face every day and the incredible bravery they show in the face of disaster.

Rest in peace, Major Leatherman. Your service and sacrifice will always be remembered.

Each year your hometown Firefighters here at Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue, firefighters from across our County as well as the entire Country face times of tragedy and triumph, arguments, lessons learned, reflection and celebrations. These vary in their impact and influence on each individual and are now a part of our lives and in many cases cannot be easily dismissed.

Firefighters whether they are career or volunteer dedicate their lives to the protection of life and property. Sometimes that dedication is in the form of countless hours volunteered over many years, in others it is many selfless years working in the industry. In all cases it risks the ultimate sacrifice of a firefighter’s life.

In our country today is recognized as National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day—a solemn time to remember the brave men and women who gave and lost their lives protecting our communities from fire and disaster.

Across the world today has also been designated as :

“International Firefighters’ Day” which originally was linked to the feast day of St Florian (the patron saint of all firefighters). St Florian was the first known commander of one firefighting squad in the Roman Empire. He lost his life, as well as those of his colleagues, for protecting the same humane ideas which firefighters all over the world share even today.

Firefighters in most of the European countries celebrate their day on 4th of May as a ‘Day of Fire Service’ as well as St. Florian’s Day. This date is also known as St Florian’s Day worldwide and has been tradition for more than 150 years in Europe.

On this day our Fire Chief, his Officers and their proud membership choose to observe both.

We ask you stand with us with hat in hand in remembrance of those Firefighters who risk, gave, and lost all when selflessly answering the alarm that sounded for a call for help while still celebrating those who continue to carry the torch of selfless dedicated service to those in our communities who may experience their lowest point and greatest time of need.

No matter the badge or the patch. These are all heroes; all the time.
