Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue Department

Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue Department Proudly serving our Citizens since 1997 There are several holiday programs, which have become new established traditions in our area.

The Lake Jericho Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department is here to make certain our small mostly rural community is as safe as possible. We respond to emergency calls; including but not limited to, structure fires, fire alarm activations, gas leaks, auto accidents, medical assistance responses, and weather related emergencies. In addition to responding to fire and rescue calls. The Lake Jericho Volunte

er Fire and Rescue Department also organizes and conducts additional classes and demonstrations, which are designed and over seen by certified and experienced fire service instructors certified and credentialed by not only the Commonwealth of Kentucky Fire Commission but the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, and National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications this not only allows us to ensure state of the art and up-to-date fire and emergency services training for our team but provide the ability to promote fire safety and make the topic understandable and fun for our citizens young and old. For example October being fire prevention week is filled with fire safety training and training demonstrations . During beggars night our team sets up a "A Place of Safety" to see the fire trucks escorted by friendly fire department "ghosts and goblins" handing candy out. December is filled with alot of holiday activities as well. This includes but not limited to our "Santa Run" throughout our communities subdivisions assisting Santa Claus with pre-planning for his Christmas Eve trip dispensing treats and holiday cheer while riding on a fire truck. I would ask you to feel free to take a few moments to browse through our web site to learn a few things about us. You will see why I and our fire service family take such pride in our department and you may even consider becoming part of our dedicated team of men and women who make up our family of firefighters .We invite those of you who are looking to enrich your life and serve your community to contact my department at [email protected], go to our "Recruitment" page, or stop by any Wednesday night at 7:30 pm to meet our family and learn more.

As Memorial Day is approaching and the weekend festivities are already beginning to start up please consider remembering this.

Memorial Day, although a federal holiday held the last Monday in May, is the nation's foremost annual day to mourn, remember and honor its service men and women who died while in service to our country.

Originally called Decoration Day, it was formalized by a "Memorial Day Order" issued by Grand Army of the Republic Commander-in-Chief John A. Logan in 1868.

Most would agree that the traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years.

Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day.

At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored and neglected.

Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades.

Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in their dedicated service to our country.

On Memorial Day the flag is displayed at half staff until noon and at full staff from noon to sunset.

Please consider, always remember, and never forget those that have given and paid the ultimate sacrifice ! We always will say Thank you to ALL who serve or have served! We continue to remain grateful for and honor the sacrifice made. There are certainly plenty of great events for Memorial Day but even if you cannot attend one please consider taking a moment of silence in remembrance of these selfless true heroes.

On behalf of our Fire Chief, His Officers and Their Proud membership we ask that you please remain safe this holiday weekend and every single day!

Our Fire Prevention team here at your Hometown Fire Department here at Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue want to ask you a very important question……

Do you have a fire extinguisher in your home?

Make sure you know the proper use BEFORE a fire breaks out.

Remember if you have a fire remember to call 911….

To use a portable fire extinguisher, remember the term P.A.S.S.

1) Pull the pin. Hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you, and release the locking mechanism.

2) Aim low. Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire.

3) Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly.

4) Sweep the nozzle from side-to-side.

DID YOU KNOW?

April is AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH.

For many students especially those with autism, anxiety, or sound sensitivity, fire drills can be difficult to manage.

This Fire Drill at School social story helps students visually process what will happen during a drill, understand the loud sounds, and feel more prepared to respond calmly.

This resource is perfect for reviewing with students before a scheduled fire drill and can also be printed, laminated, and posted by the door as a visual reminder.

If you live in the Lake Jericho Fire first due area and you are a parent, teacher or caregiver and would like to have a laminated copy of this aide. Your Hometown Firefighters here at Lake Jericho Fire have you covered. Just reach out to :
