Busy Saturday for Station 50

Your Smithfield Volunteers handled nine calls for service yesterday (11 July) which included multiple fire alarm responses, a motor vehicle accident, multiple medical responses and an extended large animal rescue for which a City of Suffolk Rescue Company was requested for mutual aid. The SVFD would like to thank SFR Rescue 1 for their quick and professional response!

We would also like to congratulate Logan Edwards on his first day of work as a City of Hampton recruit. Logan is one of our live in member and is currently assigned to HRFA class 82. Proud to see one of our own moving forward.

The Smithfield Volunteers are at it again! Squad 52 with a crew of five and Rescue 50 with a crew of three executed a side removal using a B post laydown and removing a patient with non life-threatening injuries and provided initial patient care until the arrival of an Isle of Wight County Fire Rescue ambulance.

Productive start to the week for SVFD on Father’s Day

Your Smithfield Volunteers have kicked the week off with several calls for service to include multiple smoke and gas alarm responses, continuing hose trials, and various training sessions to maintain and hone our craft.

Father’s Day (Sunday) kicked off with the daily due diligence of checking off apparatus and equipment before being called to investigate an odor of smoke in a local commercial business. 504, Engine 52, and Truck 50 along with IoWFR Battalion 1 and Car 1 localized the source to a roof mounted A/C unit. Determining there was no fire or hazard to the public the A/C Unit was secured and the building turned back over to the manager within 30 minutes of arrival.

An hour later, 50 House crews were requested for a smell of gas inside a residence in the Wellington Estates neighborhood where a faulty gas stove was found to be the source of the leak. The Engine Company secured the leak while the Truck Company ventilated the structure, turning the residence over to the owners within 20 minutes of arrival.

Sunday concluded with Classroom Training covering Basic Engine Operations.

Production and Service continued into Monday as SVFD crews responded to multiple calls for service and public assistance throughout the day. Duty crews additionally trained on Engine Operations as well as attack line techniques which included a new attack line evaluation as we look to improve the equipment currently outfitted on our fire suppression apparatus.
