1. Tomorrow is the “Together We Serve” neighbors serving neighbors in our community event which is hosted by the City, America250 and the residents of the city. We would ask that you take time to help tidy up your yard or help your neighbors with theirs as we prepare for the upcoming Health Days celebration the first week of May. What a beautiful time of year to be outside and serving our fellow friends and neighbors.
2. The council and mayor would like to thank Jeff & Lynda Gittins and all of the other volunteers and vendors who have been diligently working what will be the new city history museum located at 102 South Main. Interior and exterior improvements are happening daily as we get ready to open the building in the not-too-distant future for the residents and visitors to see. If you see Jeff, Lynda and members of the Historical Society thank them for their tireless dedication to this project over the last several years. This project would not have been possible without thousands of volunteer hours, significant financial donations from businesses, residents and RAPZ Tax application approvals which were approved by the Cache County Council. Even after the building is opened, improvement projects will continue.
3. As spring clean up starts, we have had several inquiries about what can be placed in the green waste garbage cans. A few items you can include are grass, leaves, garden waste, clean hay and straw, shrubs, branches, and non-invasive weeds. Items which are “not” accepted in the green waste cans include but are not limited to rock, gravel, dirt, pet waste, tree root balls, sod, any branch, trunk or limbs over 12-inches in diameter or six feet in length. Information on garbage, recycling, and green waste service can be found at the following link: https://smithfieldutah.gov/289/Garbage-Collection. We have had a few inquiries recently about garbage, recycle and green waste cans being left on the curb day after day or even for an entire week. Please make sure you pull your cans back in after they have been dumped for the week. If you want to read about the city code in this regard information can be found at the following link: https://smithfield.municipalcodeonline.com/book?type=ordinances =8.20.030_TIME_AND_PLACE_OF_PICK_UP

Bonus Item: Health Days week is right around the corner. Information on all of the events can be found at the following link: https://smithfieldrecreation.com/city-events/

Bonus Item: Dog owners, we need your help! With the nice weather we all want to be outside and active. What a beautiful time of year to go on a walk, be outside with our pets, etc. One significant problem we have had so far this spring is with dog owners not picking up their dog’s waste in the city parks and especially on the sports fields. There are dog waste pots in the city parks. Please help us keep our parks and sports fields free of dog/pet waste. We want everyone to enjoy the parks and sports fields, but we have had many people not take care of this issue this spring and it is not fun for anyone involved.

There is a vacancy on the Smithfield City Planning Commission for an alternate commissioner. This is a volunteer position, with meetings held the third Wednesday evening of each month at 6:00 pm. The Planning Commission reviews and makes recommendations on many different items to the city council, but the main focus is land-use. You will need to plan on doing some homework and occasional training which will be provided at no cost to you. Planning Commission appointments are for a period of four years.

If you are interested, please send an email to [email protected], including your phone number, expressing your desire to serve and why you are interested. Emails expressing interest will be accepted through Thursday, April 30th at 5:00 P.M. This is a great way to get involved, offer your input and learn what makes our city grow from the ground up.

Note: You must be a resident of the city to be considered for this position.

1.Chalk Art Festival. There are still a few spots available to sign up for the Chalk Art Festival for Health Days. This is your chance to turn a sidewalk square into a canvas of your own artwork. You can sign up as an individual, a family, or a group. Registration is just $10 per sidewalk square, which includes a t-shirt and chalk. You have the whole first week of May to help transform the sidewalk around the library into an amazing river of art. Prizes up to $100 in adult (15+) and youth categories. Information can be found at the following link: Chalk Art Festival, then find the registration under "2026 Health Days Events".

2. City Park Prep. Our public works crew has been working hard to get the parks ready for full summer use. They have now opened all the restrooms, tended to a variety of routine maintenance items, set out the trash cans, trimmed weeds around fences and posts, over-seeded thin patches of lawn, sprayed for dandelions, and painted lines on their fields. By Health Days, everything should be in tip-top shape. Be sure to thank our public works employees for their great work when you see them.

3. Connect Transit Survey. The valley’s bus system, Connect Transit, is inviting public input about their services and future plans. This process is focused on understanding what is working well, where improvements are needed, identifying opportunities for new or expanded service, and better aligning with the priorities of the communities and their residents. This is a chance to make your voice heard as our valley continues to work to meet the needs of our growing population.

Bonus item: Seed and Tree Giveaway. Come “check out” (a.k.a. take home) planting seeds from the Mike Nielson Seed Library at the Smithfield Library circulation counter. The seed library includes seeds for many favorite veggies, flowers, and herbs. City residents get a Health City discount on all seeds: $0 a packet! (Actually, all seeds are free to everyone as long as supplies last). Also, those who registered for the annual tree giveaway can pick up their Western Red Cedar saplings on Saturday, April 25th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on the library patio.

Senator Lee's Mobile Office is a resource for constituents across Utah who might not otherwise be able to meet with casework officers or other staff at Senator Lee’s offices in Salt Lake City and St. George. “I want my office to be open and available to all Utahns,” said Senator Lee. “The best way to achieve that is by going directly to them. Utahns deal with a range of federal issues – from Social Security to veterans benefits to navigating the bureaucracy of the federal government – and I want to be there to help them get answers.”

“As your Senator, one of my responsibilities is to help Utahns work with federal agencies. I am committed to helping Utahns resolve problems with Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, immigration, military service, veteran’s benefits, federal worker compensation claims, tax matters and the IRS, passport assistance, grants, small business concerns, and many other important federal issues.

“I have professional staff in my state offices who are trained to work with constituent casework. These professionals work every day to assist Utahns when they encounter problems with federal agencies or federally funded programs. My staff are ready to assist you with these agencies.”

What: Mobile Office Visit to Smithfield
When: Wednesday, April 15 @ 10:00 AM – 11:30 PM
Where: Smithfield City Hall

Please note that only Senator Lee’s staff will be in attendance.
