Members of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department stood alongside departments from across Maine in Augusta to honor and pay our respects to fallen firefighter Andrew Cross.
Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and the members of the Morrill Volunteer Fire Department during this unimaginable time.
The fire service is a brotherhood and sisterhood unlike any other. Today was a powerful reminder of the strength, honor, and unity shared among first responders across our state.

Rest easy, brother. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿš’

Smithfield Fire & Rescue extends its sincere congratulations to Lieutenant Forrest Noke on the successful completion of his Firefighter I & II Instructor certification!

This accomplishment reflects a high level of dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence within the fire service.

We commend Lieutenant Noke for his continued pursuit of knowledge and leadership. This was no easy feat, this certification process is rigorous, and not everyone passes. His success speaks volumes about his work ethic and determination.

We are proud to recognize this significant achievement and honored to have him as part of our team.

On the evening of March 6, 2026, Smithfield Fire & Rescue responded to a residential structure fire in our community.

Upon arrival, crews worked quickly with limited manpower to bring the fire under control and ensure the safety of all occupants. We are grateful to report that all residents were able to safely exit the home.
Unfortunately, the family has suffered a total loss. A few cats remain unaccounted for, and one has been confirmed deceased. The members of Smithfield Fire & Rescue extend our sincere condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time.

Smithfield Fire & Rescue would also like to recognize and thank the mutual aid departments that responded and assisted on scene. Their rapid response, professionalism, and teamwork were instrumental in bringing this incident under control.

We extend our appreciation to the following departments for their support:

Oakland Fire Rescue
Norridgewock, Maine Fire Department
Rome Fire & Rescue
Belgrade Fire & Rescue Association - Maine
Sidney Maine Fire-Rescue
Waterville Fire - Rescue
Delta Ambulance

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Mike Obert of DMO Landscaping for responding with an excavator and assisting crews on scene.

Incidents like this remind us that emergency response is truly a team effort. We are grateful for the strong mutual aid partnerships and community members who step up to help keep our communities safe.

Our thoughts remain with the family affected by this devastating loss.

๐Ÿš’โ„๏ธ Cold Water / Ice Rescue Training Today!

Today we completed an excellent cold water rescue training, and it was a great success. Members from Smithfield Fire & Rescue Association, Winslow Fire Dept, and 3 Maine State Police Dive Team members trained together in hands-on ice rescue operations.
This training was provided by Resilient Responder EMS Training and Education, and we are grateful for their expertise and support in helping keep our responders prepared for real-world emergencies.

โš ๏ธ PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT (PSA):
The training hole on the ice is well marked with cones and caution tape. Please avoid the area for the next few days. The cones will remain in place until the ice has had time to refreeze and reach sufficient thickness.

๐Ÿšจ Remember: There is NO such thing as safe ice. ๐Ÿšจ
Thank you to everyone for respecting the marked area and helping keep our community safe.

Great teamwork, great training, and a great day for responder readiness! ๐Ÿ‘
