Johnston County Emergency Services is looking for an Emergency Management Specialist to join our EM Division.

This position plays a hands-on role in keeping Johnston County prepared — from emergency and disaster response to training and exercises, EOC activations, hazardous materials preparedness, equipment readiness, public education and our Emergency Management drone program.

Our Emergency Management Division made the first deliveries of emergency preparedness kits this week. 📦

A limited number of kits were purchased through a Duke Energy Storm Preparedness Grant. Each kit includes essential items to help vulnerable residents stay safer and better prepared during emergencies.

We’re excited to see these resources making their way into homes across Johnston County. 🎉🏠

A Heat Advisory is in effect for Johnston County from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Take a few extra precautions to stay safe:

💧 Drink plenty of water — don’t wait until you’re thirsty
☀️ Limit outdoor activity
❄️ Take frequent breaks somewhere cool or air-conditioned
👵 Check on older adults and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle

Our area is facing another heat risk this week, with heat index values expected to climb above 100°F midweek.

It’s best to limit your time outdoors as much as possible, especially those sensitive to heat. If you cannot limit your time outdoors:

☀ Take Frequent Breaks
💧 Stay Hydrated
👕 Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing
🌙 Consider shifting outdoor activities to cooler parts of the day
🚗 Never leave anyone (including pets) in a closed vehicle

Need somewhere to cool off? The Johnston County Courthouse, Public Library, the Salvation Army, and Street Reach are all open to help you beat the heat.

The Johnston County Emergency Services family extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Nash County EMS Director Dale Griffin.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Nash County EMS family during this difficult time. We stand with you as you honor Director Griffin’s life, service, and legacy.

The NC Association of EMS Administrators is deeply saddened by the loss of Dale Griffin, Director of Nash County EMS, who passed away this weekend.

Dale dedicated his career to serving Nash County and the EMS profession, helping develop and mentor the next generation of EMS leaders across our state.

Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and the entire Nash County EMS family during this incredibly difficult time. NCAEMSA stands ready to support Nash County EMS in any way needed.
