Please note that this temporary road closure will now take place THURSDAY.

Heads up, Smithfield — brief road closure tomorrow afternoon:

THURSDAY at 2:00 p.m., South Brightleaf Boulevard will be temporarily closed between Packing Plant Road and the bridge to allow contractors to safely complete a rock blast as part of construction for a new wastewater pump station (2878 S. Brightleaf Blvd.).

What to expect:
- A single, controlled blast lasting about 15 seconds
-Minimal impact expected to surrounding properties
-The road closure should last approximately 5 minutes

Smithfield Police Department will assist with traffic control, and a fire engine will be on site as a safety precaution.

We appreciate your patience as we complete this important infrastructure project. Please plan for a brief delay in this area around 2:00 p.m. THURSDAY..

🚨🚨Please be aware of the fraudulent emails, however, the Smithfield Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office continues to use an online email based billing system where an invoice requiring payment is sent. This invoice is for new construction, new businesses, and fees associated during fire inspections. These bills are legitimate,however, if you question the validity of a bill, please contact the fire department’s Fire Marshal’s Office at 919-934-2468. Have a blessed day and be safe! Don’t forget to check you batteries in your smoke alarms! 🚨🚨

The Town of Smithfield is once again warning residents about fraudulent emails claiming to be from our Planning Department. These emails may reference invoices or request payment and are designed to look official.

Please note: The Town does NOT send invoices or request payments via email for planning services or any department. These scam messages often come from email addresses that look similar—but are not—legitimate Town addresses. Do not click links or open attachments.

Please avoid the area of East Market Street. There will be some congestion from an accident involving fire apparatus. All occupants are ok and were transported with minor injuries.

Our firefighters never stop learning!

Crews recently took part in Live Fire Training with Johnston Community College, giving them the chance to practice critical skills in dealing with hazardous materials in a controlled, real-world environment.

Training like this ensures our team stays sharp, confident, and ready when every second counts.

This is a great opportunity for Fire Marshals and Fire Code Officials to learn more about the roles of the Fire Marshal Division.
