The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office has received reports that local businesses are being contacted by individuals falsely claiming to represent our agency.

In these calls, the scammer provides what appears to be a legitimate case number and claims that counterfeit currency has been passed at the business. The caller then instructs employees to take the cash to a Dollar General store for “verification.” Employees are provided with a barcode and directed to have it scanned at the register, after which they are instructed to provide the cash to the cashier.

In reality, this process transfers the funds directly to the scammer’s account, and the money is often unrecoverable.

These individuals may possess information that makes them appear credible, including employee names, business owner names, and other details about the business. This information is used to convince victims that the call is legitimate.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office does not conduct investigations in this manner and will never instruct businesses or individuals to transfer money, purchase gift cards, scan barcodes, or send funds as part of an investigation.

Anyone who receives such a call should immediately hang up and contact the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office through its official phone number. If you believe you have been a victim of this scam, please report it to law enforcement as soon as possible.

Please share this information to help protect local businesses and employees from becoming victims of fraud.

I received a report of a resident getting a phone call from someone claiming to be from the "Sheriff's Dept" telling the resident that they were in contempt of court for not reporting to jury duty and insisted that they come and sign papers. This a scam and NOT anything from your Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

Anytime you get any calls from anyone claiming to be from my office, and you are suspicious of the call, hang up and call my office at 270-928-2122 and verify the call.

Thank you,

After 20 years of dedicated service to Livingston County — including 16 years as your Sheriff — Sheriff Bobby Davidson will officially retire this Friday, May 29, 2026, at 12:00 noon.

Sheriff Davidson began his law enforcement career after graduating from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training on November 10, 2006. Following graduation, he served as a Livingston County Deputy from 2006 until 2010 before being elected Sheriff on November 2, 2010.

During his time in office, Sheriff Davidson helped lead many important advancements for the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and our community. Working alongside KACO, he helped establish the county’s first policy program, strengthening professionalism and accountability within the office.

One of his proudest accomplishments was implementing the first School Resource Officer program in Livingston County history. Today, every school campus in the county is served and protected daily by an SRO because of that vision and commitment to student safety.

In 2013, Sheriff Davidson also helped bring the D.A.R.E. program to Livingston County. Last year marked the program’s 13th year of teaching, mentoring, and building lasting relationships with our youth.

Throughout his career, Sheriff Davidson worked countless cases that brought justice, closure, and support to families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. The relationships and memories built through those years of service will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

Serving the people of Livingston County has been one of the greatest honors of his life.

Thank you, Sheriff Davidson, for your leadership, dedication, and unwavering service to Livingston County. We wish you and your family nothing but the very best in retirement.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us never forget the true meaning of this day — honoring the fallen heroes who gave everything for our freedom.
